When I use my phone in my free time I do a mix of things. I browse Lemmy for a bit, check my subscriptions, upvote and comment here and there, and then I close my Lemmy app.

Then I go to my favorite blogs, I read manga, I scroll tumblr, I listen to podcasts and watch youtube videos, and I discover new and interesting things.

Sometimes I find myself thinking "Hey I should share this cool thing with Lemmy!" But I run into some issues. It might be hard to find a good community for it, or they might have restrictive rules.

I once submitted a post to a music community that hadn't had any activity in months. The mod messaged me within an hour of posting to let me know he'd taken it down because I'd broken a rule by not putting the year after the song title instead of before.

So this community is meant to do three things.

  1. Spark the thought, "What have I found outside Lemmy recently that might be fun to share?" Or "What have I created recently that might be fun to post?"

  2. Give people a place to post whatever they want without worrying too much about it.

  3. Get people into the habit of posting. Its fun to build up a streak!

I highly encourage people to crosspost! (And follow that comms rules when you do!!) Want to share a cool manga you found? Post it to c/manga and post it here too! Lots of sleepy communities only get a post every other month. If this comm can spread the activity out then that is great imo.

I've been active on Lemmy for years, even though I've switched accounts due to issues with other instances and privacy reasons. I've built a few different active communities and I enjoy doing it. I'm hopeful that this can be an interesting little corner of the Fediverse. Its a work in progress, and you might see the rules change as I figure out what works and what doesn't. If you have any questions or feedback comment or send me a PM (also I know this breaks the one post a day rule but its a pinned post! Thats a fair exception! Dont ask me to ban myself!)

I heard of the "Elephant's Foot" before, but I didn't know it was breaking down, and has lost most of its radioactivity. Interesting!

... but always exciting. And unfortunately always relevant.

I love this guy, and am always pumped to see him upload. I don't usually go to redemption arcades so I enjoy getting an insight into the strange world of kiddy casinos.

I finished this recently and found it incredible. There was so much history I was completely ignorant to. I never knew the U.S. controlled The Phillipines, or that we took so much of Spain's empire.

Highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to know the full extent of the U.S.'s imperialism. I will say it has many parts that are difficult to read, especially the events in Manila.

I was working on a game for months in Godot and it was going well but I had this itch where i couldn't help but think that maybe things would be easier if I was using rust(ive never used rust).

Well I'm a week into the rewrite and I can safely safe it did not make things easier. Much harder in fact.

That all being said I'm having a lot of fun learning about rust. God there is so much to learn and it made me realise how many concepts are smoothed over by using GDscript.

I was very glad to run into this at my LCS. I recommend issue 34 as a good place to start.

Got the album Transgender Dysphoria Blues from the public library and this is the best song on it. It's one of those unicorn tracks that makes me want to play it again as soon as it ends.

Seems to have everything inside! Not sure if I'll have a chance to get it to the table but the art is amazing. I'm in love with the cover, especially the space orc looking guy. From the imposing cod piece to the fist grip rifle its everything I love about vintage sci-fi.

I used to mess around with this all the time a decade ago. Glad to see it still exists.

Post Today

53 users here now

The idea is to post one post a day, any day you remember to, to this community.

Whether that is an image, a text post, a link to a song or an article or anything else is up to you.

Crossposting - You may find that your post here could also fit another community, in which case you should crosspost it. However I recommend making the original post in the other community and then crossposting here. Many communities have stricter formatting or content rules, so its best to make sure you are meeting those before making your post.

Rules

  1. Follow the lemmy.zip Code of Conduct
  2. No more than one post a day
  3. No porn
  4. No AI

My goal is to not remove posts. If I do have an issue with a post I will try to reach out to you. The rules may be updated as necessary. I'm open to feedback, feel free to message me.
