Here's a really stupid question. Why is alcohol so readily available when it's claimed more lives than guns have? I must say I'm a little bitter about this because alcoholism runs rampant in my family, yet I've been fortunate enough to dodge it. Alcohol is the singlehanded most destructive drug out there. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy beer and wine myself and occasionally some spirits. But I've learned my limit and I know when to stop swinging the glasses right at the tipping point when I feel like I'm about to turn violent.

I understand that alcoholics develop an incredible tolerance to alcohol, but how are they not bedridden everyday with a hangover? I can't even move the next day if I've had to many drinks the day before.

I recently got hired into my first salaried position. I'm pretty happy with the pay but when I was hired on they told me I was overtime exempt. After reading up on overtime exemption, it seems like a common thing. These first few weeks are busy so I've been working a bit more than 40 hours which is fine, however, being over-time exempt kinda sucks. So my question is....what is the point of salary? I know people say things like, well your income is more stable....but how is salary pay much different than hourly if an hourly worker is working 40 hours every week and has a consistent schedule...? Also, where I work, it is my understanding that you have to work 40 hours to get paid for 40 hours. It's not a situation where you could work 30 hours one week and still get the same pay just because your salary....so if I work 30 hours I get paid for 30, but if I work 50 hours I also get paid for 40?? Make it make sense!

This is obviously in response to the recent UFO hearings in congress and the online fervor that’s come from that. Trying to make sense of these communities on Reddit that form echo chambers of hype off of sources they previously viewed as fully illegitimate.

The Project 2025 website doesn't tell me much of anything and the documents for it are enormous. I mean 1,000 pages enormous.

Not to be a grammar nazi but it irks me to see this across different platforms, so that begs the question can people genuinely not conjugate the English language? Or is it a meme in its own right?

I might be missing something, but wouldn’t it be a good thing to keep a speaker who, even if they are a republican, is willing to cave to/work with the Democratic Party on important issues? The fact that the likes of Matt Gaetz are led the removal effort makes me think it would’ve been good to keep McCarthy as speaker. Wouldn’t he just be replaced with someone even worse?

For me it was the religious belief mormon. I've never heard about it until I did an exchange year in the US where most of my English class were Mormons. I grew up multi religious since my city is so multicultural but I've never heard about Mormons before until then

I (24M) still live with my parents while I finish up university. I don't intend to be here forever, and as soon as I graduate and find full-time employment, I intend to move out. But right now, it just doesn't seem worth it to try and get an apartment on a minimum wage salary, especially with how expensive rent is nowadays.

I should also mention that I help out around the house a lot, I cook a lot of meals, wash dishes, do laundry, clean up when it get messy, etc.

But I still feel very insecure over the fact that I live with my parents, and I feel too embarrassed to try to date or ask women out because I worry I'll just get rejected immediately for living with parents at my age.

Should I focus on trying to find my own place if I want to start dating or should I not worry?

Apple is pushing their new phone like crazy and the word Titanium is plastered every where. Why is this a big deal? And are people so stupid that they just see this marketing as some special?

I swear that my partner's sandwiches taste so fucking good, but then I make one myself and it's not as good, AND I FOLLOW THE SAME STEPS AND USE THE SAME INGREDIENTS. WTF!

His numbers don't seem to be shrinking, despite the fact that he's under several indictments. He says vile things about our military, which until he showed up, was a guaranteed way to nose dive a campaign. Plenty of people where I live (West Texas) think all these charges are the result of a witch hunt, and that he's a modern-day Jesus being unjustly persecuted. To the rest of us, he's clearly a disgrace to the oval office, and to the country as a whole. He is a threat that needs to be taken seriously. Now, what would it take to bring him down? At this point, I'm convinced that he could eat a live baby on the Tucker Carlson show, and his fanbase would still find a way to defend it.

I was on a date with a girl yesterday and she kept looking at my forearms. I'm not a bodybuilder or anything but my forearms especially are quite large and vascular. The calf genetics are missing so I had to be balanced out somehow. Anyway, she was fascinated with how veiny my forearms were and kept feeling them. I didn't mind it at all, compliments always feel good but I'm just not used to receiving compliments on my forearm veins from chicks. In fact, only guys have ever noticed and mentioned them.

I was rewatching the sopranos and while I know it’s a fictional show it got me wondering if racist people actually enjoy ethnic food…Tony orders/eats Chinese food but also displays a clear prejudice against Chinese people

Is this just something I’m thinking too much into for a fictional show? Or is this something that racist people conveniently ignore enjoying another culture while simultaneously hating it? Or is it more complex than that?

I'm 20 and I gave up hope on ever understanding humanity or getting friends, I decided that I'm much better off cutting contact with everybody and not forming any relationship whatsoever. Only talking when necessary and that's it.

I (29F) just got broken up with (42M) via a note page on the table in the condo we’re renting, and he packed all of his belongings and left. He did all of this while I was at work. He won’t talk to me about the relationship but is receptive when I ask about where X or Y item went because it was mine. Because this happened so unexpectedly, I’ve been cycling through the stages of grief for the last 24 hours. I was wondering what other people have done to mourn the relationship and then move on. I have some important deadlines at work coming up, and now I have to scramble and be out of the condo at the end of the month, on top of, well… This. Should I journal? Walk 20 miles? Hermit inside my bed? Write a note to him and either send it or burn it? The most helpful thing I’ve felt I’ve done is write a Pros list on why it’s a good thing our relationship is over. But obviously… All of this still hurts.

This is a rhetorical question, in a sense. I don't think for one second that Trump actually believes the election was rigged or stolen.

But let's assume he does believe that.

Biden would have to have circumvented every Trump appointee that had anything to do with election security while being wildly unpopular, even amongst Democrats, to pull this off.

Now that Biden is President, he theoretically has even more power to rig or steal an election than he did back then. So what's the point, if he truly believes that, in even running?

I'm in the US. Have been all over the country for work and I've noticed a lot of places will use both windows for a short time after opening then either fill the space for the first window with supplies or just not use it. Why?

i just wanna know: men who are overweight always have a large, protruding mass of fat on their abdomens, and it’s, like, hard? it’s not squishy and soft like the fat on women’s bodies. no matter how much extra adipose tissue a woman has, it’s never hard like men’s beer bellies are. why is this?

I have never been a morning person and if I wake up anytime before 9:30am I feel like I'm in a different dimension all day. I'm starting a new job soon that starts at 7am. I had a job in the past that started at 6am and I was miserable the whole time, couldn't make myself go to sleep early, was constantly exhausted, and I only lasted a few months. But I really want to do good at this job!! Does anyone have any tips or advice? Specifically on falling asleep earlier?

The context of me having been a babysitter:

When I was in high school I did typical high school stuff, and I was trying really hard to get good at skateboarding. One day this little kid pestered me to teach him how to skate, so I did. I'd spend maybe an hour on random days after school showing him how to ollie and eventually his parents noticed me showing him stuff outside the house and asked if I'd baby sit him (and they'd pay obviously).

So that was the first kid I babysat and it was a LOT of work actually, it wasn't always just teaching the kid to skate, he was obsessed with Steve Erwin and had so many pets that I had to keep alive while the parents went on a vacation. 1 snake, 2 cats, an aquarium (15+ fish of various species), 1 bird, a dog, and multiple hamsters in a tunnel system thing.

I had done such a good job keeping the house running smooth with out issue that the parents told other families about me and i ended up babysitting a bunch of different wealthy-ish families kids.

Most of the time I established good relationships with the kids, being more like their friend than an authority figure and I enjoyed it a lot, but it was very tiring because it was always some situation of like 5 kids, or a bunch of pets, or a spreadsheet of allergies, or a learning disability etc. So eventually I stopped, but also i was older and headed off to college.

The Situation where I learned its apparently a red flag:

I've been out of college for years now, live in a different state, have a full time job etc. I was talking to this woman I was interested asking about plans for the weekend and she said 'oh I cant do anything I agreed to watch a friends kids'

I laughed, mentioned I could relate, asked how many kids its gonna be, if they had allergies, if she'd babysat them before etc. trying to get a conversation going.

She said 'what do you mean you can relate?? do you have kids of your own?' So I responded saying, no I don't have kids but I used to babysit quite a number of them so I know what its like and how much of a pain it can be.

Her response was 'Ew, why would you babysit kids? that's weird, guys should NOT babysit kids'

This response REALLY turned me off and I thought SHE was weird. I didn't press the matter and we changed the topic but I've stopped perusing anything with her.

The reason I'm Asking reddit:

It's really more so to gather information and opinions from a larger audience of women.

I asked a couple of my guy friends and they all agreed that its a bit weird to read into a guy having been a babysitter but the conversation ended pretty quickly because we all have a quick nod where I feel validated that im not a crazy person and move on to other things.

But what threw me for a loop was when I asked two women who I've known for a couple years about it they both sort of held this general opinion of 'well shes kind of justified in feeling that way'

I asked them for an explanation but what they provided me was very insufficient because they were wishy washy about it and changed the subject.

I just want to understand:

  • If a lot of women might feel this way
  • Why women may feel this way
