I knew cardboard would be a terrible canvas (hence attempts at sealing) and only for early practice but wow. Even with the layer of medium underneath it basically drank the paint. Which I knew it would but not to this degree.
Paint rambles
Despite trying to coat thinly and smoothly it was impossible to avoid streaking and brush marks because the acrylic Anko paint actually started drying while I was still working and I had to use much more of it at once to spread it.
What I should have done was mix in some of the clear medium so it wouldn’t dry so fast. It would have been less pigmented which is bad because it took thick layers to even show up, but it wouldn’t have looked so rough. Upside is I won’t mind that this is disposable. But it took most of both my tubes of yellow. I should have just ordered poster paint.
I’ve been trying not to feed them as much but one of the magpies approached me when I went out to rinse my brush under an outside tap. Flew right up close and looked at me. It looked like a female maybe. Broken top beak. I nipped inside to grab some of Melbcat’s pet jerky and threw the magpie some crumbled pieces.
I’m wondering if I’ve done a bad and made the magpies too dependent and trusting of humans. Also worried about whether this bird can eat properly. But I’m not going to be able to catch it for treatment.
Nah, a one off won't do damage. But it does mean you're unlikely to get swooped
I was feeding them a fair bit before. (High quality high protein nutritionally complete cat food from a bag Melbcat didn’t like.)
A bit worried if this bird is ok
fast drying happens on these too hot days
for spreading maybe use a piece of plastic or card , not a brush which is too slow ( I have been reading many books on painting lately , I painted the furniture and am doing watercolours too )
I do have some expired Myki cards
