That would compel me to switch schools
That's impossible to avoid actually. That's how all colleges in my country work and generally that's how life works. Facebook is massive here and Messenger is the most popular instant messaging app among the youth.

I'm in South East Asia (won't reveal more for privacy reasons). Facebook is really popular here.

No, no one cares. I'm the weird/paranoid one for being weary of data collection by tech companies.
WhatsApp is massive in Asia, except China. They have Wechat over there.
Not the person you're talking to but I'm in the UK and went back to uni as an adult in 2018. Literally had to install Messenger because it was the only thing the kids used, for the entire duration of our degree. Completely blew my mind!
