It's amazing to see how many communities are joining in on the blackout. It's also sad as fuck all.

I've been agitating, in what limited capacity I can, to make to this happen.

It still hurts....

Myspace came and went.
RIM/Blackberry came and went.
Digg came and went.

Email has been there the whole time. Because it's a protocol. ActivityPub is another protocol which means the content using it will last longer than the hosts, the data is more fluid and can easily be moved.
