AYO THAT'S LEMMY! I DID IT AHHHH

spoilerBesides the 97 different issues I had to solve per step, that was actually easier than I was expecting

[โ€“] Baku@lemmy.baku.lol 8 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Confirmed. Source: am Baku

anyways imma bounce now because I feel like exposing a computer in my actual house is a bad idea, even with cloudflare hiding my actual ip (if I did it right anyways).

Idk if my federation is doing the do or not, but after I post this I'm officially closing down my personal Lemmy instance I lovingly entitled "Baku's Offbrand Lemmy"

About to speak to the company now. This is when I have to tell them about the police check. Here we go.

Mentally, I've accepted that I'll be disquialified for the role, but it was great getting the experience!

Edit: Not looking good. Because of the type of client this company has a contract with, anything on a police check is bad news. The guy was nice, and is still going to double check, but yeah. No luck this time again.

Edit 2: confirmed no luck. Cannot have anything on police check. Fuck.

Best to fess up BEFORE they find out on their own. I would still pursue getting your record wiped though.

[โ€“] Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago (5 children)

Definitely. That's always been my way of doing things.

I think itโ€™s the right thing to do, but choose your words carefully. It could be the difference between looking like an active problem or achieving issue overcome.

Dad's in the USA at the moment, so I have an opportunity to use US Amazon and have him bring things home that are normally too expensive/unable to ship to Australia.

So, I'm looking to get my wife a new lunch box. And even accounting for our American friends' love of putting adjectives in front of any consumer product, I have to say the phrase "tactical lunchbox" just makes me giggle.

"I'm far too manly to carry around a lunch box!"
"But, it's a tactical lunch box, dear."
"Oh. Well, that's ok, then! I will take my tactical lunch box to work in a very manly fashion!"

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

Food stays fresher longer if there's an american flag and a picture of a bald eagle on the front. God forbid that any ignorant person should call these a, a, a, a 'handbag'!

Some guy swearing in the alley. It's too early for your anger, bro.

Edit: also purchased Doom and Doom II on GOG, because they were having a big sale and these were only $3 each. Having so much fun, such a nostalgia trip.

Put on a bra that was still a bit too damp from the wash, and now I have chilly titties. My poor, poor chilly titties ๐Ÿฅถ

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 7 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Beware underboob damp rash

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

yup, there could be some serious chaffing

Yesterday I decided that I wanted to mess around with hosting a Lemmy issue, and since I've been trying for the better part of 12 hours, I think it's safe to say I wouldn't make a very good Lemmy host.

The Lemmy files themselves are fine, so far anyways. But actually getting them working has just been issue after issue after issue. I'm almost done - all I need to do is run the ansible playbook. Unfortunately I can't get ansible to work through terminal. I'm pretty sure it's an issue with ansible not being added to path, but no amount of adding things to path has helped, zsh still has no clue wtf an ansible is. So I decided to homebrew it. All well and good until I realised it's actually building ansible and all of its requirements from scratch, with most of the requirements taking between 5 minutes and 2 hours to build ๐Ÿ™‚

As much as staring at a screen for 12 hours progressively fixing error after error kills the psyche, it's also kind of fun. I mean I'm like an offbrand wizard at this point! I may take 48 hours to complete the spells you want, but that's not because I forgot about you, it's because I have to complete 9,787 things before I can do your spell + figure out wtaf I'm doing

There's something really special about what I call the "IT fucking bullshit cycle" that can be hard to explain. It really is rewarding lol

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 4 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

I'm not sure I'll get much reward out of this since this is just a test I'm running on whatever hardware I have to see if I can work it out to see if it's worth renting a VPS

llvm is still building, a good 40 minutes after it started. Google tells me it can take up to 4 hours, but I'm too scared to leave it alone and check in the morning๐Ÿ˜…

Edit: 2 hours and it's still building. I'm calling it and going to sleep and just sort of hoping it doesn't fail overnight

Just got the message that I'm good to book an appointment with the MC doctor, which I've set for Monday morning (soonest available). I guess that means I'm borked enough to be eligible.

Bit worrying to see a Victorian kid come back on a flight with bird flu, and that poultry outbreak. I was really hoping it would miss us.

Edit: Do you think it would have been included in this years flu shot?

Price of eggs gonna go sky high. As someone who canโ€™t eat dairy or wheat, this is gonna suck.

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago

Went food shopping and got carried away by accident.

Had to put back the lollies because I was scared I overspent but I did treat myself to 2 bottles of pink moscatos which Iโ€™m looking forward to soon.

On the bright side though I did about 2 weeks worth of shopping.

Hoping it lasts as long as I think it will.

[โ€“] TinyBreak@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago (2 children)

turns out the cat can operate the touch controls on the hotplate. Thats good to know, better turn that off at the isolation switch.

[โ€“] Catfish@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago

One of mine has been sticking paws in the toaster. Pretty sure heโ€™s not got the strength to turn it on, but OFF at the power point just in case. Suicidal idiots.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 5 points 6 months ago

Now you just have to teach him to open the fridge, dice and cook.

Finally found my old Kukri from a trip to Nepal in '99 and this w/e going to try and restore it so it's shiny and sharp.

Centre of balance is right where the blade starts to curve so about half way. All my chef knives centre is the bolster / heel.

Surprised customs let a kid (was 13 at the time) in with such a devastating weapon.

According to wiki: "traditional custom that the blade must draw blood before being sheathed".

Instead gonna see how an onion fares:

Sherpa dude who was with us pointed out the good ones so with any luck he was right.

Anyone seen my tiny card wallet? I'm about 75% sure it's somewhere in the house. But probably somewhere ridiculous.
