Longtime redditor exploring new territory, to me at least. Digging that there is somewhere else to feddit and trying to get a feel for things here on Beehaw.
I like my coffee bold, black and pipping hot.
I'm another reddit refugee, I'm in my 20s, I like watching movies and tv shows at double speed, I'm an expert in digital piracy and I'm hoping to make some friends here
Hi, I'm a gozt (pronounced "ghost" if you care) and I'm a 30 year old dude who's trying to learn how to code. Taking a course walking me through Javascript at the moment and I'm rather enjoying it even if some stuff takes some head-bashing to understand it. Not sure if I'll be able to make a career out of it but I'm hoping for the best.
I have pretty broad taste in things, I like to believe there's something in any genre or variety that I will love. I think the quality I appreciate the most is sincerity; if you're into what you're making, and you put your all into it, I will probably love it.
Aside from that, my hobbies are gaming and drawing. I don't put as much time into drawing as I probably should but it is something I enjoy. And as for gaming, I play too much stuff and I've already gone on long enough.
Hello everyone! Long time reddit lurker here coming in to check out this new part of the internet. Currently in university for CS and love technology, computer hardware, tennis, videogames, and more recently cars.
Really like the idea of these smaller, more tight nit communities that exist on their own. Excited to see where this goes.
It has a feeling of the 'older' internet, doesn't it?!
I collect some older 486's myself, since I'm more of a hardware fan than software (if that makes sense!). Have you seen Halt and Catch Fire? If you're a fan of computers, their history, the builds and all that, the series if 100% worth your time!
Hello everyone! It's great to be here. I'm a 26 yo trans woman just look for a cool to place to hang and read stuff since reddit seems to be going a poor way. Here's to Lemmy and beehaw! 🤗
Not sure if I’m too new to tell you welcome, but welcome! Let’s make this place worth welcoming to.
Howdo champions!
I’m Darren. He/him. I live right in the middle of the south of England with my wife, where I work in quality and health and safety management.
I have a background in radio, podcasting, and welding, so if you want any tips on those very connected subjects, I’m your man. Music is my main love, but I can’t play a note.
I have ADHD, which is why I’ve been posting on here so much instead of doing what I’m getting paid to do.
I feel that last part, luckily my job only really requires 3 hours of work and the rest is just trying to look busy.
I'm in a weird position at work, where the managing director values neither of the things I do, so doesn't really have any idea what I'm up to. As a result, I could literally spend the entire day fucking about online, and he'd have no idea how it was affecting the outcome of what I do.
Hi, I'm Lionir but you can just call me Lio.
I'm a young adult and I've been involved, even if from quite a distance in the making of Beehaw. I speak French as I've notice a few others do.
I'm not sure how to present myself. I'd say I tend to be quite pragmatic in how I talk even though I think I'm generally rather emotionally aware and a good listener. I don't think that this means that my rationality is more important to me than my emotional sensibility but rather that I'm not really sure how to be useful outside of a pragmatic approach.
I have a wide range of interests. I advocate for privacy, freedom, better working conditions and more generally human rights. I think often about how power structures (for example, capitalism) affect people. I like to talk about what I think is good design. I enjoy anime and video games. I do some programming as I have my own website and maintain packages on Flathub. I'm always looking to learn new things!
I'm glad to see this place alive and well.
Another Reddit refugee here (Redditugee?).
Based in the UK, I love anything space related hence the Astro part of my name. Reading, tech, and gaming are other loves.
I’m liking what I can see of this fediverse so far, let’s hope it continues to flourish.
I am also a redditor who came here yesterday. I am a snake and reptile loving lady (she/her) with ADHD who gets really obsessed with new and novel things, so of course I signed up for several different fediverse sites yesterday and am getting the hang of them.
For this site, I'm mainly looking for a kinder, smaller Reddit. I grew up on the internet in the early to mid 2000s and I really miss the smaller, tight-knit forum communities that were the norm back then. A small niche subreddit scratched that itch somewhat, but I still never really learned who the individual people in my frequented subreddits were, you know? It felt like less of a community.
My main hobbies are games (MMOs, simulators, cozy games, etc), crafts (cross stitch right now, but also crochet and knitting), and reading.
Cool beans! I'm in the ADHD club too, and recently got into crochet, but I've done embroidery, knitting, and general sewing too. Fiber crafts rock.
I haven't knitted in ages but I'm a keen crafter and do a lot of sewing, some embroidery/cross stitch, pottery, woodworking, and general artsy stuff. I have a heap of wool I need to spin so I can get back into wool crafts but I promised myself I would finish my crockery set first 🙃
What games have you been playing lately?
Wow, you do all the crafts! Lol
I’ve been replaying The Talos Principle lately. I also recently dug out my Switch again and am playing Spiritfarer and Cozy Grove on there.
I'm Gris:
I'm a medical student in the US and a refugee from reddit. I have a lot of different interests that vaguely align with what seems to be the topics of interest here. Things like politics, technology, ethics/philosophy, science(particularly as it relates to the life sciences and medicine).
I chose this instance of Lemmy specifically due to it's fairly neutral stance to content and the general push for conscientious community interaction (and the generalized focus on a few different subjects, rather than left-wing politics being a central theme pushed me here rather than some other instances I looked at) .
I'm Audrey, a long time Reddit user who signed up yesterday. I initially joined Reddit during the collapse of Digg, so, yeah, I've been there a while. I also dumped Twitter shortly after Elon Musk took over and switched to Mastodon; that was my first experience with the Fediverse. So far, I've had nothing but good experiences with the people I have met on fedi, and I hope that continues here.
Anyway, I am a 35 year old trans woman who lives in the Pacific Northwest, and my interests include video games(both modern and retro), movies(particularly the so bad it good kind), sports(well, I used to care more than I do, I only follow Seattle teams now), books(sci-fi, fantasy, history), and tech(to a degree). I do stream on Twitch from time to time, and I'm planning on switching to Linux when I build my new computer soon.
I can also be found on Mastodon at @UngodlyAudrey@retro.pizza
Nice to meet you all!
Hello!
I've been a Redditor for 11 years - I was even in the Century Club subreddit (it's not nearly as interesting as you probably think it is).
I work as a AAA game programmer. I previously worked on the Battlefield series, but EA laid me off earlier this year as part of them shutting down my former studio. Now I'm working on a new AAA title I can't really talk about.
Before I worked in the AAA space, I worked at Disneyland! I used to be a skipper on the World-Famous Jungle Cruise. I also worked as a host at the Tiki Room (fun fact: technically, this is considered part of the Jungle Cruise), a conductor on the Disneyland Railroad, and an "archaeologist" on the Indiana Jones ride they have there (although I disliked working Indy).
As a hobby, I have a model train layout. It's in N-Scale (1:160). I'm also part of a local model railroad club that periodically meets up and puts together modular layouts. We meet at local convention centers and whatnot, where we string together a bunch of 4x2-foot layout sections that we each individually own/maintain and make one big mega-layout.
I'm super excited to be here!
Hello...Bees?
I'm just a middle aged guy living in Maine, US. Love my family and try to raise the kids as well as I can to be good humans.
Music is my religion. Mostly 90s grunge, alternative, and power pop, but really I just love a good song.
Comedy, video games, movies, books...I like consuming media.
Obviously part of the influx of Reddit users. Always happy to see the fediverse grow though.
Hello to all. I'm yet another reddit refuge. Initially, I was quite bummed at the news about the API price out of the 3rd party apps that had made reddit at all usable. Having discovered Beehaw and Lemmy, I'm becoming quite glad. I'd already abandoned Twitter for Mastadon, but I never quite appreciated that the Fediverse was a thing until the Great Reddit Purge forced me to take a step back and re-evaluate my (digital) life.
I'm now quite glad those bastards are putting the last nail in that particular coffin. I've known the Internet from when it was young, and I remember the nettiquette of olde. This place has the feel of those days. It's nice and refreshing.
I'm an avid computer and cyber security geek with a love of reading, music, programming, sysadmining, teaching, and many other things. It's great to be here with ya'll, I'm excited to be part of this great community! :-)
Hello fellow uhh… post-redditor? What parts of cyber security do you like? Funny how most people here are still programmers.
I've always been most keen on understanding how offensive cyber is conducted in order to best defend against it. What programming I do is just to facilitate that.
Are you also interested or involved in cyber security?
Hi! Looking for weird shit on the Internet and I like comics
Hi there, Nice to meet everyone.
I go by GooseDwarf, I'm a tech enthusiast, who also enjoys video games, tabletop games, and reading SciFi and Fantasy. Like many others, I'm working on leaving Reddit, and after seeing people mention Lemmy, and seeing Beehaw at the top of the recommended, decided to give this community a try.
Do you have a favorite sci-fi or fantasy author to recommend? (I am deeply entrenched in Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adams, and Ursula le Guin.)
Hi, I'm birdy; a new user who joined yesterday. I've been meaning to look into lemmy for a while. Finally decided to actually get around to doing it.
My interests that come to mind right now are some sports, board games, reading, and technology.
Hey Birdie, where's Tuca?
I’m still setting up here, but hello! I go by Dev (he/him), and like a few others, I’m kind of obsessed with trying out new internet spaces, and a friend recommended this place!
Online, I play a lot of MMOs, but I’m also a tech librarian for work alongside being in a professional symphonic band!
I’m not too good at intros, but nice to meet you all!
What does a "tech librarian" do?! That sounds fantastic!
It's kind of a broad term, but for me personally, it's someone who does library work more 'behind the scenes' of what you think of when you think libraries! For example, like most other librarians, I have my Masters in Library Science, but my work focuses on creating the digital catalog systems that libraries use to keep track of collections, while also doing things like integrating technology into libraries, website stuff, the whole digital side of it all!
Sounds like a great job!
I always wanted to be a librarian, or at least a part of me did. A year or so ago I seriously considered follow it up (that and literally a lighthouse keeper...you can tell how my work had been that particular month!), but never did. So, I'm a little jealous! And your particular field of it all sounds even better.
Those online book borrowing systems for the Kindle/Kobo? Best thing to happen on the digital side of libraries in my opinion!
