Are we checking? This is a place to take a p*ss out of motorsports.

F1 is not the only motorsport in the world, so go ahead and post your shitposts about WEC or MotoGP or IndyCar or ralley or Polish Speedway or whatever. Even Formula E, I guess. It needs some love, too.

By the way, F2 > F1.

Rules? What rules? Stop inventing. Just don't be a douche. Lemmy.world's sporting conduct applies.

How long can they keep justifying keeping him that car. Compared to what Alonso is doing with it he's looking like an absolute donkey.

Forever. He's the boss's son.

I get that but everyone has their limits. His dad has sunk some proper money into this sport, guessing he would like to see results. All he has to do is look at the points difference between his 2 drivers to see where the problem might be.

Pay to ride drivers have always been part of the sport.

If you have enough money to not see it as an investment, but as an expense to let your son do his hobby there's no need for results. The goal of it all is to keep Lance racing. If it also helps to promote his brand, that's a bonus.

It is so fucking frustrating that Stroll doesn't have to worry about keeping that seat. Any other driver on the grid with that performance would be sweating hard.

I have a feeling that he is going to step down in the near future. I think he doesn't sound like he's enjoying racing F1 anymore, but we'll see.

Maybe the rumors about the Aston 2025 Le Mans Hypercar don't come out of nowhere. Could be he's getting shoved to IMSA.

He’d probably be pretty fast in hypercar too. He’s not a bad driver, he’s just not quite F1 level. IMSA or WEC could be a great home for him and would still be a top level Motorsport. Plus teammates might help get him to be a bit more consistent.

Good bronze drivers can keep in the pack of gold drivers. That's what Proton frequently tell Fassbender. Even one of the worst Formula E drivers of all time, Antonio Giovinazzi, managed to win Le Mans with his team.

Having a team shittier than Haas doesn't really help his campaign on Formula E tho. For what it's worth Giovinazzi has been one of the faster Ferrari drivers in the simulator. From what I've read he's also good at driving endurance cars too. That's another reason why Ferrari still keeps him around.

I've heard this excuse over and over again but it's nothing but an excuse. He was never in striking distance of his team mate, he quit most races, and when he was finally replaced with a rookie coming from Super Formula, that rookie matched Giovinazzi's best result right away. It's unacceptable for a racer to quit all the time whenever the car is not competitive. Not even Stroll, Latifi, or Mazepin did that.

For what it’s worth Giovinazzi has been one of the faster Ferrari drivers in the simulator.

If that was true, he would be in Leclerc's or Sainz's seat.

Stroll tonight:

“Papa can you hear me?
Papa, please forgive me
Try to understand me
Papa, don't you know I had no choice?”

[–] woelkchen@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

His sister will comfort him.

[–] WhoRoger@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Aaaaaagh I was so believing he'll do well, Singapore is his track. Well maybe we'll see some overtakes like a few years ago, but more likely he's just giving up under the Nando boot.

I get that he kind of went "all or nothing", but disregarding everybody else behind him and his coworkers that have to repair the car (and the associated cost within the cost cap) for some sort of "full send" gamble more often than once is just so bad from him.
