Wow, they killed it while negotiating with him…? If that’s not acting in bad faith, I don’t know what is.

If this isn’t proof the api pricing was purely designed to kill 3rd party apps I don’t know what is
I don't think it's unreasonable to suspect that this is probably the left arm not knowing what the right is doing. That said, I'm all out of "benefit of the doubt" to give to reddit.
I really hope the developer makes an app for the fediverse. Joey was good
It was such a good app, the way you could customise it was second to none. Shame that the dev got treated like this by reddit (but totally expected). Also afwul to hear this was their main source of income... Glad I donated to them before I left Reddit.
Also, thanks for sharing this, never would have seen this otherwise.
uhm.. but my Joey still works? lol
i have killed the "please update" message and still run a older version of Joey, but still. if reddit kills off the api key you would suspect that the app isn't loading anymore content. but it does. weird.
edit: okay, seems if you are a moderator in any subreddit on reddit the app still works. that's why. reddit amazes me everyday more.. first they kill off thirdparty apps, but then still allow to use them if you are a moderator..they kill off NSFW for thirdparty apps, but if you are a moderator its still working.. they can't decide what they want.
They want a lot of moderators and a lot of new subreddits with no users apparently...
a lot of users already created subreddits with their own username after the nsfw block in the API. so yes, lots of empty and pointless subs only created to bypass the block.
They want mods to still be there because it’s free labor that they actually need for the site to not be complete dogshit. For all other users, they want them to use their Official(tm) CCP-Certified(c) Reddit Application(r) so they can shovel shit down their throats.
Joey was my goto app for Reddit and it was fantastic! I was surprised it never came up when people talked about the best reddit apps. I had always used the ad supported version, but when the u/spez hit the fan I wanted to show my appreciation to the developer and donated for the full version before I left. Joey for lemmy would be awesome!
Here's that link to register for their next apps. not sure what they're planning, whether it's something for Lemmy/Kbin or something totally unrelated, but I loved the shit out of Joey and if they go on to make an app like that for the Fediverse I'm right behind them.
No one ever talked about Joey during the whole Reddit Apocalypse but it was my favorite 3rd party app. RIP Joey.
Libreddit is gone too now - only tool left is old Reddit but that sucks on mobile
Yeah I only go on reddit on my computer now, and WAY less often than I used to. Just started checking this site out, seems like a good alternative!
Yeah for just random scrolling it’s good, I still visit some communities on Reddit like Credibledefense because there isn’t a good alternative. Don’t post or interact anymore however
Welcome!
I used to care about old Reddit, but alas, it is still Reddit, therefore also dead to me, even as a dead man walking
Same here. I'm not installing the terrible official Reddit app and thankfully the hockey news season has mostly slowed down. It's really the only thing I miss from Reddit are Hockey/Red Wings community. I've been really happy with Lemmy's growth otherwise and the apps get better every day.
So ridiculous.
Yep, that's one of the things I miss, a hockey/Canucks community.
Hockey's Future! Old School, but an active community.
Yep, went to see Beau is Afraid discussion on Reddit through Google and the thread wasn't opening. Was wondering if something was wrong with /r/movies. Turns out it was Joey.
RIP. Greatest Reddit app.
A sad day indeed.... Joey was exceptional for its customization features, and I look forward to supporting the developer in any future projects.
I uexpressly used the official Reddit app and actually enjoyed the app slightly more than 3rd party ones before I deleted it. The 3rd party app nonsense was more of a final straw than really caring about 3rd party apps.
For myself I've seen a steady decline in Reddit for the past few years. It went from a cool and quirky community of people, to trolls and ads.
I left Reddit for the same reasons I left Insta and FB, because it wasn't why I wanted to be there in the first place anymore.
Those apps where there for me to connect with people. Not be sold and have my information be sold.
Reddit was created to share information and have like minded people come together under anonymity, not take my information or having me be sold via ads based off my subs to turn profit.
Joey was in my top favorite Reddit apps next to Sync. It'll be interesting to see what his next projects are going to look like.
Welcome!
