I keep trying to tell people this..

The GOP doesn't want me to be a guy again or to be a "Second Class Woman"

They want me dead

Genocide. Genocide. The fucking word is genocide. Fine reporting I guess but if the publication is going to directly allude to camps, they might as well use the goddamn correct term.

Not to say republicans are friendly to trans people, but it's quite a stretch to jump from "Trump proposing to move homeless people to tent cities" to "they're going to genocide genocide genocide everyone"

[–] coradora@beehaw.org 15 points 10 months ago

Well, that is not the part they are leaping from. Trump and project 2025 are very clear about their desire to eliminate trans people. No stretches, leaps, or jumps. They are doing the Nazi shit right now. It’s a genocide.

Why do you tolerate the moving of your countrymen into any camp?

Out of sight out of mind? There is no such thing. Any time we are dealing with undesirables, it's out of sight and dead. That's why we scream genocide. Historically, that's how it starts.

Homes for the homeless. Never camps. Never "tent cities."

This is news? I thought we all knew this already.

And we should call it out every time rather than accept it as normal and stop talking about it.

Some people have their fingers in their ears yelling “lalalalalalalalalala!”

How is existing as a transgender person pornographic or obscene? Is it not well-known that trans people are generally more private about their bodies and sex lives than the general population?

There isn’t even a cogent reason provided for what problem is being caused by trans folks. Presumably it’s the threat to the patriarchy gender variance poses, but idk why they don’t say that part out loud.

Not by a long shot. Trans people are thought of as pornographic and obscene because most people's only knowledge of them is unfortunately through porn.

Doesn't need to be. The target audience aren't deep thinkers.

I think it's how authoritarians take power, by dehumanizing our fellow citizens and turning us against each other.

I would bet that the war on the transgender is entirely thought by those monsters in a machiavellian manner. The transgender will always be a minority and yet they can never by collectively eradicated. As long as there are people, some will be transgender. Moreover they are very easy to frame as an "other". This makes them a very fine enemy to generate fear and hate from. No risk of significant backfire, no risk of running out of them either.

Mistake trying to reply in an app. Deleted and moved.

I think most republican law makers don’t actually care about trans people, they’ve just been successfully marketed too by anti trans demagogues that it is in their interests to push these policies.

If they’re evangelicals, then going after trans people is a way to push the Overton window back towards punishing gay people and enforcing their religious vision of patriarchy.

If they’re people who want to privatize all school then it’s another wrench they can throw in to the operations of public schools make them more dysfunctional and hated.

If they’re libertarian de-regulators, then it’s a new minority to scape goat when out of control private companies fuck up. (Read how they blamed POC and gay people for ruining major franchises, rather than unregulated consolidation and shitty management strategies)

Most of these are actually not very sound strategies and probably won’t work, but the anti-trans demagogues have successfully sold right wing leaders and politicians on the idea that this new plank to their platform will help them win in 2024. Frankly, I think they’re setting them selves up for disaster as most democrat politicians and pundits are just going to not engage with them on It and call them weird for obsessing over other people genitals. But the anti trans demagogues will get what they want, the laws will go through in red states with no opposition but from trans people and their actual allies.

Vote, get involved, and if you're ever on a jury for bullshit nullify

That's where someone's being charged for a crime, and you think the law is unjust, so you just say Not Guilty. You don't have to show your work and there's nothing the court can do to make you change your answer.

This is a great power that should be used responsibly.
