If you weren't here to pick the Oranges you can't have any apples.

[–] littlebluespark@lemmy.world -3 points 9 months ago (2 children)

What are "Oranges", exactly?

[–] TwattyMctwatterson@lemmings.world 4 points 9 months ago (1 children)

It is a false argument. Apples to oranges is a phrase used to identify a false argument.

I was pointing to the fact you capitalized it, but thanks for being pedantic. 🤦🏼‍♂️

edit: nice ninja edit after the fact.

[–] Clent@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Accusing someone else of being pedantic after you complained about capitalization is hilarious.

You mean like the oranges of the species?

[–] tonyn@lemmy.ml -3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Are the oranges the slaves? Or...

This is said like its some sort of privilege to stand for the national anthem and not just social pressure to.

You know what the real thing is, about standing for the anthem? That shit is CHEAP AS FUCK.

Standing for the anthem never costs any billionaires a single cent. So, of course, that shit becomes a primary, defining characteristic of being a "loyal" or "true" American. Pretty much the ONLY characteristic, really. Everything else costs something, and the anthem-obsessed assholes never seem to want anything to be paid for.

Ask these motherfuckers about social programs, fixing the homelessness situation, fixing the (related) housing price situation, feeding hungry children, providing healthcare to the population, etc, and you'll get responses like "well, see, I'm a Libertarian. It's obvious that you're more of a Statist. I can provide you with some PragerU videos that will teach you how all state-run interventions are always doomed to fail."

But then you decide not to stand for the anthem, and the same motherfucker will be all like: "OH MAH GAWD, WHY DO YOU HATE YOUR COUNTRY?? THIS GUY HATES HIS NATION!"

If you basically object to the state ever doing anything for anyone, then nobody should be standing up for it.

I don't get it, this seems like a false equivalency to me.

[–] HerbalGamer@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago

I think they have some line in there somewhere about crushing mexicans or something.

[–] loaf@sh.itjust.works 7 points 9 months ago

Joke’s on them. I wouldn’t stand for the anthem anyway. Anyone who declares loyalty to a country that doesn’t care about them is a moron.

[–] tygerprints@kbin.social 3 points 9 months ago

What they are saying here is, all of us are victims of America's racist past, whether or not your family was around when slavery was an issue. It's just sort of a snarky way of saying that.

[–] awwwyissss@lemm.ee 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Yayy... more Kremlin propaganda

[–] juliebean@lemm.ee 10 points 9 months ago (1 children)

if this is propaganda, it's kinda shit cause i have absolutely no clue what it's even trying to say, or what kind of ideas it's trying to push.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@literature.cafe 4 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

I have to assume it's about Nikki Haley and her dumbass remarks on the Civil War.

Like, if you're going to pretend you don't have to think about or acknowledge the bad parts of American history because your family wasn't here yet don't try to get Patriot Points (TM) for talking about the good/prideful ones.

[–] awwwyissss@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago

Yeah, and more generally speaking the Kremlin's social media propaganda is trying to divide Americans, and other democratic countries, by creating/emphasizing differences and decreasing unity.

"True Americans" vs "new Americans", emphasis on multiple negative aspects of the US' history, etc. Divide and conquer in an age of anonymous social media having serious influence over democratic governments.
