And yet I still haven’t seen a single ad in years or one of these new warnings to allow ads. Thank god for ublock origin

I was using vanced, but last week it would load a video then buffer forever. Same thing was happening to my official YouTube app as well. I tried a couple different YouTube apps but either didn't like them or couldn't get them to work correctly.

Firefox with u block works so well. I added sponsor block and it's like I'm using vanced again.

I had the same problem with vanced where it stop every video after 1 minute and 3 seconds. Updating Revanced Manager and creating a new APK fixed the problem, now everything works with no issues again

Sure you weren't using extended? The dev quit at the beginning of the month.

Gotta re patch and use revanced

I had this issue with ReVanced, I had to go into the settings and enable spoofing... Haven't had an issue since.

I left Reddit on July 1 this year. I will leave YouTube as well. I might consider staying if their ads weren't hot, flaming garbage but you can only report bullshit ads saying that Elon Musk was going to donate to Canada so that no Canadian ever had to work again so many times.

Good - the more aggressive YouTube is, the more attractive the options become.

Mostly PeerTube and Odysee. Although even non-free competition (like Dailymotion and Vimeo) growing still helps, putting a dent on the botnet's monopoly.

What do you mean by "botnet's monopoly."

[–] lvxferre@lemmy.ml 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Botnet = Google/Alphabet. It has simply too much control over video sharing (and other things).

"Botnet" is just a pejorative nod against Alphabet and the fact that, for all intents and purposes, it controls your computer quite a bit. It is not a real botnet.

Idk, just seems like an odd word choice when it's obviously not a botnet.

And it doesn't control your computer. It spies on you a lot but it doesn't actually control your computer.
