The strain from the cruise ship is the Andes strain.

Avoiding rodents isn't the answer to this one (still avoid them, that's just not quite the correct answer here).

The risk to the average person is low for other reasons.

One difference is in the very fact that we can name the virus: we know more about how it spreads and the symptoms to look for. It's not an unknown virus, unlike in 2020 when we were dealing with something we had never seen in humans before.

If someone does start to show symptoms it will be tested for earlier during diagnosis than it otherwise might be since hantavirus is in the news. Earlier detection will reduce spread (if we even reach that point, many of the passengers are in quarantine).

The other passengers being in quarantine is one of the biggest things lowering the risk.

I hope those moms refused an epidural during childbirth. After all, there's lots of conflicting information.

I say that sarcastically, but I know there's a movement for all natural childbirths. We're past sarcasm.

Yeah, I'm trying to find more local groups to be a part of. So far the book clubs haven't been all that great, someone told me about one that's a silent reading group so I night try that next. I also tried two hiking clubs, it was fun being around people but the pace was really slow, any time I felt like I was starting to fall into a good pace it was time to stop for the stragglers to catch up. Usually I don't hike or read to socialize though, so that could be part of it.

Thank you though. It's good to know finding hobbies and groups to socialize is the right path forward. I just need to find some more sociable hobbies, haha.

I feel like there's only a few flavors of different types of people out there. I'm losing it over the constant crooked septum piercings, shaved sides dyed blue, pagan witches, burners, and I swear no one read Octavia Butler until that meme went around last year and suddenly everyone's favorite book is Parable of the Sower.

I have to pause to say I am genuinely happy a black woman is getting more attention to her work, she deserves it.

Back to this. It all feels performative. If you're listing 4 white male authors then one black woman, like no, you're not really expanding your view. You just want the brownie points because society feels like it's falling apart, but you're different, you've read this book.

It's just like. I know we're all on our own journeys. And if that's someone's starting place, that's great. But when I go through ten profiles in a row and feel like I've seen the same person ten times with ten different faces?

I'm pretty sure there's a term for this but I can't remember it, and if I stop to look it up then this isn't a rant. Even people who try to be nonconformist still end up conforming to a different set of standards. I have enough awareness to know I do too, it's our nature to want to be part of a group. But I feel like the groups I'm supposed to be a part of I don't fit into either. I've always struggled with feeling connected. There's two people in my life I'm strong friends with, so I know I'm capable of it. I just can't seem to find it. And yeah, coming in thinking like this isn't helping me either.

I'm tired. In so many different ways that even a good night's sleep can't fix.

There's more than just drowning.

Hypothermia is a risk of the water isn't kept warm. And most likely someone's going to fill the tub and let it sit, so it would quickly lose its warmth. Don't assume because you're cold you'd wake up.

I'm sorry you're in the situation you're in. You deserve better. I hope you're finding good options from others, here's my submission:

Vegetarian/vegan option: A bowl of rice with black beans on top. A healthy spoonful or two of sofrito. Some diced jalapenos (I like to briefly cook them in a pan with a little oil, but maybe don't do that if you don't know what you're getting into).

Toast a few corn tortillas (I use the oil from the jalapenos, gives the tortillas extra spice). You can toast them as short or as long as you want, I like it when they have a slight crisp but are still foldable.

Use the tortillas to scoop up the food in the bowl. It's really best if you skip a spoon and just use the tortillas/your hands. Trust me on this, it adds to the experience. Plus you can't use your phone or anything because you're using your hands to eat, and it's best to focus on your food while eating instead of a device.

I prepare the rice ahead of time, but you could also just microwave a thing of minute rice. Canned black beans because I don't have the mental energy for dried beans. A rice cooker makes cooking rice so easy I never buy minute rice, but that also would be an expense you might not be able to spare. Honestly depending on how tight money is, if you buy your rice and beans dry you'll save a bunch of money.

I ate that every day for about two years due to a medication making to hard to stomach a lot of foods. Never got old, still regularly make it because it's easy, filling, and healthy.

Another option: fried rice. Bag of frozen veggies, rice, egg, you can throw in other random stuff. MSG is cheap and takes it to the next level. I'm a goblin, so I'll go to the Asian market and just try different savory sauces. Maybe don't do that.

The last gen z are nearly finished with high school. The oldest gen alpha kids are in high school. We're a year into gen beta being born.

One of the parts that gets me is there is a good opportunity for more sales there (if that should happen is another debate I don't have the energy for). A few years ago I bought an electric kettle. So cue months of ads for electric kettles. It's a kettle, you only need one. Now if I had been shown different teas or coffees, stuff I would use the kettle to make, they would have absolutely hooked me easily. I had a new toy, I was excited to use it, I would have loved trying new teas with it. I still did, but they were all ones I chose.

My conspiracy theory is that it was wildly successful, because the point wasn't creating whatever VR space they claimed wanted to happen; it was to cover up the story of the Facebook papers. The timing lines up (both in October 2021 within a day or two). The additional patents acquired in the process are just a nice little bonus.

Investors ate up the idea from someone who has a history of wildly successful growth. And we all know, it would have been outcry from investors that caused any real change (in America at least) about Facebook's business practices.

I'm not a medical professional, just did a quick search to verify: the first shot wasn't available for children until 1995, so older generations couldn't get it during childhood. That shot was only for children, a version for adults over the age of 60 came later in 2006, but was limited in effectiveness. In 2017 a new vaccine was introduced with significantly higher effectiveness for people over 50.

At least two. One had it done three days later, another did it within the week. Not sure about the third person, but the other two I asked and they both said they had.

I'm glad you got yours! Definitely worth it to avoid that pain. Since it's nerve pain, most pain meds don't help. And the one that did lowered it from a 9 to a 7.
