Lol not showing adequate deference to the noble profession of HR is right wing vitriol?

I don’t understand what people find so hard to believe about people having bullshit jobs. Have you guys never been on Linkedin? Tip: 99 percent of everyone with a three word title (”manager” counts double) that needs a convoluted essay to describe their basic function, has a bullshit job.

They may or may not be able to coast like OP, but when they do: nothing changes. There’s an entire industry based around avoiding getting caught coasting, look up ”mouse jigglers” for an example. If the customer base’s output was important, demanding input proportional to the time they are required to be ”at work” and/or directly quantifiable – there would be a very small market for mouse jigglers.

The only incredible thing about this is how insanely stupid it is to have such an economic dysfunction be a hallmark of the economic system, but hey, that’s late stage capitalism for you.

I don’t have an opinion on whether Örebropartiet is fascist or not, honestly that might be giving them too much credit.

The party is really only known nationally for its front figure, Markus Allard – your typical anti establishment loudmouth that mostly attracts people that elsewhere would have been drawn to libertarian parties.

Allard is not politically stringent – he’s previously belonged to Vänsterpartiet (the Left) and his grandfather was a well known parliamentarian of Socialdemokraterna (social democrats). Allard, a self described Marxist, is best known for quasi intellectual rants about a ”transferiat”. Essentially it’s about how working people are leached on, not only by capitalists, but by unemployed, immigrants, civil servants and people in ”bullshit jobs” type of roles.

2026 Glass Half Full Award:

They don't have to move their mattresses, he explains, because they don't have any — the boys sold them when they needed money. Instead, they sleep on a bamboo mat on the floor and share a blanket

Maybe I should have worded it differently. I’d wager that Lemmy, as is, is very few Lemmy users’ ideal platform, mainly because it’s very small. For instance, while it is a filter bubble of sorts, the small user base makes it hard to filter content to your preference. It’s more or less a take it or leave it proposition.

May I’m projecting, but at least I’m here seeking refuge from algorithmic enshitification, not necessarily the mixture of Linux memes and random politics I’m getting.

Not saying I hate it – many things I’m very fond of – just that it’s not all that I want in a platform (as is).

You’re not wrong, but a difference is that most lemmings don’t really want to be here, i.e are in exile and pretty up front about that. I’m not saying it isn’t an echo chamber, but it’s a much messier one than Bluesky.

We'll burn more and more coal to power air conditioners to deal with unbearable global warming until that's no longer possible.

The financial markets are the same. No reasonable person believes any of this is sane or sustainable. But what happens when the music stops? Very few chairs.

It’s a mystery to me why so many apparently serious investors are treating it like anything other than a scam.

Enter the assumption that serious investors basically consider the entire bubble/market a scam, and it becomes less of a mystery.

Reminder that, when I say that I’m technically not fucking any supermodels right now, it doesn’t imply that I actually am.

This gets glossed over too often, the US lacks any credibility, across the board. They’ve skipped right past the marrying your horse phase of civic collapse.

It’s plain as day and nobody gives a shit. Stunning.

To my mind, Russia is just ahead of the curve — it’s a country that underwent wholesale collapse in the 90’s and was ultimately stabilized by Putin and his oligarchs molding the ruins of the Soviet empire to their benefit.

Now the US is teetering on collapse as well, with dollar hegemony drawing to an end and global financial markets in some kind of a hissy fit to reshuffle wealth before the music stops for the AI bubble (and ultimately the real economy crumbling from climate destabilization).

Elon Musk soon becoming a trillionaire is the fourth horseman of the capitalist apocalypse. I have very little faith in the reasoning of anybody who cannot see that a failed car salesman and notorious lunatic being the richest person in the world – by a wide margin – is a sign of an economic system that is profoundly unwell.

Sadly, I think Trump and Putin may be previews for what’s to come when the oligarchs of world use the chaos to impose a new economic order, based on AI surveillance and severe policing of those not ”loyal” to the nebulous interests of the government(s). To my mind, it’s unlikely to be harmonious or pleasant to those in the ever expanding, bottom rung of societies like that.

I tried finding a FOSS app that I could use to use my phone as a mouse (all options for this seem really shady IMO) and Google's "AI overview" recommended the app "Bluetooth Keyboard & Mouse". Seemingly, because it has a (mostly empty) Git repo with typical folders. I tried entering the search term into Copilot on my work computer and got the same result, Copilot also gave a little speech on why the app was FOSS. Only when told there was no source code in the repo did Copilot backtrack and say it wasn't open source (and later having it listed as not recommended because of an unknown origin [eventhough it's in the Google Play store...]).

As a user, i.e. not contributor, of FOSS I found this an interesting revelation. Is this an intentional catfishing strategy to get apps promoted by the LLMs – as a semi-illegitimate growth hack for a legitish app or for entirely illegitimate purposes? Or just a serendipitous LLM hallucination?
