A Median Strategies poll in the Los Angeles mayoral race, published earlier this month, showed incumbent Mayor Karen Bass ahead of city council member Nithya Raman by nearly 12 points. Bass cited the poll as evidence to voters that she was on the path to victory in November.

“Doing the work, showing up, and gaining momentum. Let’s do this, LA!” Bass wrote in a now-deleted post on X.

Upon closer examination by The Los Angeles Times, however, the numbers didn’t seem to make any sense. When contacted by the publication about their polls, Median Strategies admitted the numbers were falsified.

Three years into the push for a safer Forest Lawn Drive, Mayor Bass (in the L.A. Times) stated that she anticipates a new Forest Lawn design without the elimination of lanes and with “signal modifications to increase safety.” Per Bass, “I think that the Department of Transportation will be forthcoming with that very soon.”

The announcement represented a stunning reversal for an event that had been billed as potentially one of the largest celebrations of jazz and Black music ever staged in Southern California.

The festival was to feature more than 100 performances and events, more than 150 artists and dozens of venues stretching across Los Angeles County. John Legend, Janelle Monáe, Charlie Wilson, Raphael Saadiq, Parliament-Funkadelic featuring George Clinton, Terrace Martin, Poncho Sanchez, Big Freedia and scores of other national and local artists had been promoted as part of the lineup.

Teachers in the second-largest school district in the nation have had to remove Black Lives Matter, Land Back, and Palestinian flags from their classrooms as part of so-called corrective actions taken following a complaint alleging discrimination. The changes occurred at Downtown Magnets High School in Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD). The district has over half a million students and 1,500 schools and centers.

The City of L.A. is still on the hook for a potentially infinite amount of money if the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics are a financial failure.

Two years out from the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Los Angeles officials say security requirements could displace hundreds of unhoused people living around competition venues during the summer of 2028. But there's no plan for how those people will be relocated, where they'll go, or who will pay for it.

It's solid NPR disinfo how they ask this question in the headline like it's some mystery... then the answer is clearly NO in the first paragraph.

It erases opportunities for communities that don't otherwise get this kind of social infrastructure investment.

Organizers are counting on the federal government to pay for public safety at Olympic venues that are considered part of a "national special security event." That includes costs for LAPD staffing. LA28 has not included security costs in its $7.1 billion budget — a fact that City Attorney Hydee Feldstein Soto criticized earlier this year.

The federal government has so far allocated $1 billion for security costs for the Olympics. Exactly where those federal funds will go has not yet been determined, and there's no guarantee they will cover all of L.A.'s policing costs.

Civil rights attorney Connie Rice, who has been tracking the city's negotiations with LA28, told LAist the agreement was a "PR document" not a deal. She pointed out that if the federal government does not pay up for security spending as expected, L.A. could be in trouble.

" It leaves the taxpayers with a GoFundMe strategy," she said.
