I’ve been working for the same company for many years, and I know for sure my male coworkers are in a different tax bracket than us female employees. We figured this out when they were complaining about not receiving the cost of living payments that went out I think last year. A while ago I requested a payrise because my work has been pretty pristine. I’ve been upskilling a lot and I’m the most competent in the whole company with technology. I’m often asked to fix issues on the PCs. I am being paid very low for the work I mainly do. I’m on $27 on hour and I manage marketing material and social media for my workplace. Including designing all print and marketing materials - I’m highly proficient in Adobe suite etc. anyway, last time I talked to my boss about a payrise he told me my husband should be making more and he needed to cover the expenses for our household. Pretty shocked. I haven’t told my boss I don’t plan on having children as I don’t believe it’s his business, but I know I want a career, not just a job. I have been looking elsewhere but not a lot out there sadly. I was also asked a few weeks ago to be on phones for customer services over my coworker because I have a more “approachable phone manner” and “customers prefer to speak to women” - I said I would prefer not to do this as I am at full capacity with my workflow, and my coworker often complains he has nothing to do. My male coworkers all have company cars, company phones, and some work from home, whereas us women have been told there’s no way we can efficiently work from home. When I started working here the women were expected to make everyone 3 coffees a day, even though they were in more senior roles than some of the men here. I fought it and now everyone makes their own drinks (my argument being I ended up spending on average 40 minutes a day making coffees) Comments about women have made me very uncomfortable over the years. Some have said point blank women should be at home. My female coworker was bullied into quitting last year because my boss suspected she had cancer or eventually would be too unhealthy to work. She had only taken 2 sick’s days in the 2 years she’d worked here. Recently my male coworker was diagnosed with cancer and my boss has given him all the time and grace that you would expect someone to do. The company is reasonably small, no HR. Basically what I want to know is if it’s possible to somehow get a gender pay gap audit done but without anyone knowing I organised it? Edit for more context: this is a church based company, I grew up in that church but left. With growing up I had some issues with self worth but recently have learnt a lot more about feminism and inequality etc. so it’s something I really am bothered by. I have applied to quite a few jobs but have heard back from very few. I didn’t get an NCEA education as I was schooled by the church too. I believe I have the skills to do amazing work but I just haven’t heard back from anyone

Kia Ora from Florida, big fan of NZ here, trying to immigrate soon. 👀

My finance (vegan) and I got to visit this March and we had the time of our lives. One thing we loved discovering was Whittaker’s chocolate. Oh my god this stuff is amazing. And for my fiancée, Whittaker’s Oat Milk chocolate was the best vegan chocolate she’s ever had. I also thought it was delicious.

Yes I admit that it’s lacking a creamy texture/flavor, but for having no cream it’s incredibly good. Y’all Kiwis might not grasp the chocolate poverty we live in here in the US. Hershey’s? 10% cocoa. It only qualifies as ‘chocolate flavored candy’ in Europe (you would have to specialty import it), but it’s all the vast majority of Americans know.

This story all came about because I just had a friend visit Australia and grab some Whittaker’s Oat Milk and Caramel for the fiancée and I. She very luckily found the last 2 Oat Milk bars they had, and now I’m coming to learn the flavor has been discontinued! I surprised to see some negatives reviews from kiwis on Reddit and I just wanted to put this out there and see if there is anyone else was saddened by the disappearance of the Oat Milk flavor.

Thanks for reading, much love ❤️

I got a little nervous when I read about police powers to search "without notice or warrant", though admittedly don't know too much about this. Keen to hear people's take on this...

Cars, vans, trucks ...

I've owned a 1990 Subaru Legacy and it was a pile of crap. At work we've got a lot of VW badged vehicles, and one in particular is a 2003 Beetle. I think it's had a new engine, automatic gear box, you name. It should be sent to the wreckers.

What are yours?

Due to some medical shenanigans my mother isn't able to to remember whether she legally divorced my dad 27 odd years ago.

Is this the kinda thing you can just query with BD&M? Seems like an odd call, "hello, can you tell me if I'm married?".

So yeah, mostly a question as to how best she could find out if she's still legally married.

*a potential hurdle is that that we married in Os.

We installed a nest wifi system (I think that’s the correct term) with the ability to restrict access during set periods. My partners youngest son (15m) is throwing a tantrum about being restricted after 11pm on a school night. I think this is too late personally. He’s a good kid. But he’s addicted to his PC and it’s affecting his schooling. What would you do in this situation?
