I contacted the journalist today to ask about what hospital department the women were admitted to.

I'm a teacher, so I understand that students need to be trained, so I was hoping it was a situation of the women being in Obstetrics and Gynecology, in for some sort of vaginal surgery, and the med students assisted without the women knowing - still not good, but at least they're doing the same thing as the Dr was doing to the patient.

The women were admitted to the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department.

The women were having Caesarean sections.

This feels worse to me in so many ways.

  1. In order to be booked in for a General Anesthetic C-Section, there is often cause for concern with the health of the mother and baby. People can chose to give birth via c-section with no pregnancy issues, but they will likely just use an epidural. GA is often used during emergency C-Sections also. See page 16 of the NZ Maternity Clinical Indicators for this info.
  2. These are women less likely to notice vaginal bleeding and pain as being unexpected or strange, given they're undergoing the birthing process. A woman waking up from stomach surgery with a bleeding and sore vagina - immediate red flag. A woman waking from a C-Section with the same issue is going to be sore throughout after 9 months of pregnancy and the C-Section etc.

Point 2 is the one in particular that I'm finding incredibly chilling. To me it looks like a deliberate attempt to disguise or hide what they're doing.

Anyway...yay.

One of my home smoke alarm recently started beeping, I went to replace the battery and noticed the smoke alarm itself has an expiry/do not use past date on it, which I'm well past now.

So off I go to Mitre 10 and Bunnings' websites to find new smoke alarms, only to come across 1 star review ratings on almost all of the traditional 9v battery powered alarms. Frequent complaints of failure to detect smoke, random beeping and more.

The same goes for the newer "10 year built in battery" disposable alarms - complaints of failure to detect smoke, batteries lasting less than 2 years etc. making these more expensive, but less maintenance required options seem like a bad choice also.

Seriously - give it a look yourself and I'm sure you'll be surprised like me at how poorly rated almost every option is.

So where does one purchase a proper smoke alarm these days?

Just a bit of a rant, but shit is fucked. Why are offices still forcing employees to come in sick? Have we not learnt from COVID? Came down with a cold (not sick enough to not work though), everything can be done WFH, and management is like, haha lol, either come in to the office or burn though all your sick leave. No option for WFH. WTF.

Had a meeting with my manager to let them know I've resigned. Gave my formal resignation letter and had a sit down with the department head.

My current employer is very secretive when it comes to resignations (has track record of high turn overs)

Am I at liberty to let my colleague's know? I feel awkward giving them the perception that I'm still here for the long haul.

I was looking at a post from a year ago, asking if NZ had Ren Faires. Ive seen some historical re-enactment faires that do go on during summer. The craftsmanship for those look amazing. But I do wish we had events that were more fantasy genre focused. Magic, Wizards, etc.

Part of me wants to do a get together and do this some day. Even just small scale event for people to dress up and pretend for a day were in a fantasy world you know? Am I the only one?
