Minecraft's subreddit is losing its official support from Mojang, and Reddit's management is to blame

303

IF you think its gonna get worse when all the redditors come over cause of third-party apps getting squashed wait until reddit shuts off old reddit. Hell will break loose!

The apps have all gone offline, welcome aboard to all the other refugees, fuck /u/spez!

Apollo has finally gone to the App Store in the sky. End of an era.

Both of my devices can’t launch the app anymore. Looks like its the end of an era boys and girls

I wrote a short goodbye post on Reddit as we enter the last hours of Apollo. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the support over the years, it’s truly been the journey and dream of a lifetime building this app and meeting so many people. 🥰💙 https://reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/14nb5qs/today_is_apollo_for_reddits_last_day_and_i_just/

11 years of posts, most of them just trying to helping out others, are now gone. Thanks Power Delete Suite! I feel like I just had a breakup that was my choice,...it feels really disappointing but I'm free!

I want to change all my reddit comments to say I'm migrating to Lemmy/Kbin. I think this is more effective than deleting comments, as I've heard rumors reddit is restoring deleted comments. I can't find a good script to do that. What's everyone else using to do that? Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks everyone! I decided to use Power Delete Suite. it didn't get all the comments but got most. Super easy to use. That felt really good.

Given how Reddit has responded to the whole API, community-mods, etc. fiasco, I felt like they're doing some of the more effective things in not only destroying their communities but also their IPO valuation.

Everytime I feel they can't make it worse, they just double down.

Out of pure curiosity, what do you think could be the next steps Reddit could take to make their future even more worse in the most effective ways possible? 😄

I'm new here. I'm using connect for Lemmy on Android.

How do I find the best subs? I'm scrolling all, and using the search function to find relevant threads and subscribing as I go but I can't search for communities. Can you link your favorite subs to join?

"Lol no one is going to leave reddit."

"I personally think trying to fragment a niche community like this is extremely detrimental to the fanbase."

"I'm sure you and the other 1 person that will be on Lemmy is going to be so mad when no one posts there."

"you want people to go to a bad Reddit competitor, to join the - what it's called, a sublemmy? - that you've just set up and where you've reposted everybody else's content?"

"I agree that lemmy is not the way forward, no argument there."

"Like a lot of "us" won't be on Twitter anymore and be on Mastodon instead?"

320

I've just joined Lemmy and I need something to fill that RIF shaped hole.

I might get "cancelled" for this, but hear me out:
If you remove your account bad actors won't be able to identify you unless they put in the effort. Reddit staff will revert popular comments and posts to the way they were before the Blackout. Mass-scrambling your posts and comments with a "f*ck Spez", followed by a long chain of "A"s or whatever, annoys people who are just trying to find an answer to something on Reddit, and it doesn't help anybody except the user's feelings.
The preservation of information comes above some moral feeling.
Your opinion?

Everyone is welcome to join.

I have setup some scaling for the website(In k8s), so it should be able to handle a decent amount of people.
Can always add more resources, if there comes a need for it.

If you signup, please let me know of any issues you find(Via my email or matrix).

Hello federated party people!

My partner and I have been contemplating hosting our own instance and I think we're about 80% of the way there. However, finding a host to host our instance(s) isn't particularly easy; there are hosts that are explicitly pro-federation, but those are few and far between.

Self-hosting is not an option, alas.

So, who do you use, if you host an instance? How do you like the experience? Anything we need to be aware of before we dive right in? We're both technically savvy, but the back-end of federation isn't something either of us have messed with.

Our sincere thanks in advance... and viva la fedeloution!
