What tools are folks using to moderate and access kbin/lemmy?

Web visits to top 5 #Kbin and #Lemmy servers over last 30 days...

According to The Information, Reddit’s revenues were up 38 percent in 2022, but that’s down from the “more than doubling of revenue” it saw from 2020 to 2021. That said, The Information says Reddit still earned “about $670 million” in revenues last year. I don’t know if getting back the $10 million in “pure infrastructure costs” CEO Steve Huffman told me that it takes to support third-party apps is going to make all that much of a difference.

Hi all,

I'm a developer that has an interest in online communities, fediverse software and, at a point in the very recent past, consuming and creating a lot of Reddit content. Discontented with regards to the direction Reddit has taken, I've taken it upon myself to start a small, general-purpose instance to give back to the /kbin community and help reduce load. The instance is hosted on a secure, well-equipped dedicated server and should support a large influx of users and communities. I will be regularly administrating it (and may even seek fellow admins); but ideally, administration will be hands-off and moderators will take onus for their magazines.

Come check us out at kbin.cafe. I'll be happy to answer any lingering questions in this thread.

Please be sure to report any issues by messaging me or emailing us at the address found in the linked post. Currently some avatars for some federated magazines are missing, but this will be resolved soon.

Thanks for reading!

Shout-out to my sisters and brothers-in-arms!

Report here if you got permabanned ("permanently suspended") while protesting Reddit, participating in the blackout, or for any related reason.

As the social media site matures, its users and moderators have made their displeasure about corporate changes known, putting the company into a bind.

I have to say, well written article (too bad they only mentioned Beehaw and not Lemmin). Reddit cannot exist without user content and more importantly the moderators who do a hard job for free.

Without moderators, subreddits simply become a free for all, the far west.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask. What’s the best iOS app for Lemmy? I’m a long time Apollo user.

😂 amazing act of malicious compliance! fuck spez

User visits and time spent on the social media platform normalize after traffic to Reddit briefly dipped last week during the blackout, according to SimilarWeb.

Edit: but also see https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/88139/Reddit-traffic-returning-normal-sort-of which explains that ad visits are still waaay down - and continue going downhill.

Hi, I'm the operator of this bot that has been crossposting from Reddit directly into lemmy/kbin communities every hour.

You can check this account post history, it has been posting every hour to various communities and I wanted to know if you guys have noticed. So far only a couple of users have mentioned in the comments that this account is a bot, other than that, on engaging posts, users seems to participate in discussions organically.

Why am I making this post? I wanted to know your opinions, should this bot continue running? Should I adjust the criteria that's used for the posts? Should I increase or decrease frequency of posting? I want to know what you think about crossposting in smaller communities that need help with content.

So far the bot takes posts no older than 3 hours and in some cases where the sub is smaller 5 hours.

The intent to which I made this bot is to help moderators of communities that are moving here from reddit or for any user that wants to mirror content here that he previously saw on reddit to spend less time there.

So, what do you guys think? Check the bio for the GitHub link, as the bot is open source. Thank you for participating!

I didn't believe that reddit would "undeleted" comments. Well, now, I know that it's true.

I deleted everything (Posts, Comments) using Shreddit a few day ago (Shreddit edits the comments with a Lorem ipsum, then delete it), but yesterday I noticed some were not deleted, trying to run Shreddit again didn't work, they weren't detected by Shreddit, so I thought of it as a small bug.

So I deleted every comment left manually, editing and deleting them. This was yesterday.

Now it's tomorrow and some comment were back online. But this time Shreddit was able to delete them.

Feel free to check my profile today and come back in a few days to see if comments are coming back (I'll monitor this closely):

https://www.reddit.com/user/Kraftingg/comments/

I'm glad we can have a thriving platform on the fediverse now, it feel more like home here!

Edit: some comment might be from reopened subreddits afterr the blackout. So maybe not totally right after all.

Looking to see if I am welcom on kbin to express the viewpoint that it is not possible to be "trans."

I assert that it is not possible to transition and that gender is the same as sex.

Is this an acceptable viewpoint on kbin, or will I be banned for expressing this?

Not looking to start a fight, just want to know if such speech is tolerated here.

So reddit has a 1000 index limit, which fools you. You think you deleted everything and your profile is empty.

But you didn't get it all.

I keep seeing articles like https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/77406/Why-doesn-t-power-delete-suite-edit-all-my-comments and https://kbin.social/m/RedditMigration/t/79420/Would-reporting-my-deleted-comments-to-mods-help-get-them

We need to get the word out. There is a way to delete all of your posts and comments, and it doesn't need to rely on a GDPR request to reddit (though having the GDPR archive certainly helps).

More importantly though, we need to get the word out about the 1k limit. This almost got me too - luckily I had a few posts where I had commented, so I could see even though all my comments were taken care of in my profile, that some comments got missed, because I still saw them on my posts.

But how can we do this? How do we make sure to spread the word so folks don't misunderstand tools like PDS and then wonder why a bunch of their content is still up; even worse, that they already deleted their account and now have no way to go back and take it from reddit.

What can we do? Ideas?

They explain:

Since Reddit Admins in their infinite wisdom, have told us not to mark the subreddit as NSFW under threat of ~~death~~ ~~de-snooment~~ suspension, I guess this shit is up to you guys to figure out if your post is NSFW or not. I mean.. It says in at least one place that profanity should be marked NSFW... But then the admins have been telling people it doesn't.. So who knows.. Admins, if you'd like us to mark the subreddit as NSFW we are more than happy to comply =)

Sadly, videos no longer have to feature John Oliver

Reddit has called moderators actions "malicious" and against the wishes of the community members. The numbers tell a different story. These are COMMUNITY protests and marking them otherwise is simply misinformation from reddit staff.

Don't even get me started on the "It's not ok to show people NSFW content when the don't want to see it." message that reddit has been sending out. The people clearly want this and even if they didn't, REDDIT HAS A NWFW TOGGLE! As well as nswf blurring. No one who hasn't flipped that toggle is seeing nsfw content.

470

Turns out option 3 (reopening as normal) has been flooded with awards the last couple of days but despite what reddit claims these protests have been without a doubt community backed.

Does this bill also affect reddit in Canada?

https://kbin.social/m/Canada/p/520103/Well-We-had-our-final-vote-on-C-18-today-And

Seems like it should. If so, has reddit officially responded about it?

Since Reddit is restoring comments from deleted accounts, even if they were overwritten by a script instead of deleted, I was wondering if there were a tool similar to PowerDeleteSuite that allowed not deleting the original content of the comment.

For example, say I left a comment that said:

Great job with this!

I'd love an extension that would leave that as:

Consider leaving Reddit for Lemmy or kbin. Edit added 6/23/2023. Great job with this!

and do that to all of my prior comments on the site. I doubt that'd be rolled back by the admins the way that deleted comments and obvious script-edited comments are and also turns any comments I've left as tech support (that people might find via google searches) into an ad to migrate to a federated alternative.

30 DAYS TO GET MY DATA! So I put in a data requet last week with reddit and it said it would take a few days. Yesterday I inquired to its status as I had not received anything and they repsonded that it might take 30 days. Im not sure if this is bs to keep their account numbers up or they are just innundated with requests.

The more people see the engagement, the more chance of them asking "what is that?" It won't be long until the apps are better, and links to articles could be less likely to get suppressed than migration memes.

I can only speak for myself, but I only saw Mastodon as viable after I started being exposed to the content there..

Couldn't find any posts talking about the API changes on those subs, but there are like 50 of them so I might've just missed it...
