Hey y'all! I figured with Nintendo bringing down the hammer on a lot of content creators, I wanted to take this popular theme and remove some of the Nintendo IP, showcasing other games instead. You can download it here, under the name "Art Book Next: No Intendo" (instructions included):

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer and have no idea how much this makes an impact in terms of Nintendo's ability to copyright claim anything. I also was only able to remove those I know about, there might be some images here still under Nintendo IP that I just am unaware of. Use at your own discretion. Full credit goes to the original creator of "Art Book Next", whose repo is forked, link in my repo. Thanks!

Here are my favorite among the “very pocketable” handhelds available on the market.

I don't know if I am the only person stupid enough to do it, but I want to put this here for if anyone else is stupid enough to do this in the future and to settle their mind.

I sent in my 3DS due to minor screen damage (an outline of scratches on the top screen that followed the bottom screen). The 3DS was old, I had bought it second hand (I think) in 2016. I was in a rush sending it off due to life being extremely busy and left the R4 Card in there (obviously I have no idea what an R4 card is used for, I just thought it was a placeholder).

I saw on the inventory that an R4 card was included. I almost emailed them just to ask for the whole lot back, but I am glad I didn't. They quoted me £80 (including VAT) to fix the screen and cosmetic damage on the hinges. They had concluded in the report that the screen was damaged (rather than cosmetic), so I thought, what the heck.

Anyway, they sent me, what looks like a brand new (probably refurbished) 3DS that looks CLEAN. Actually an amazing service. For all of the shitty things Nintendo do, supporting a 13+ year old device is absolutely insane. I got it back around a week after initially sending it.

The R4 card was also there, along with some cute Zelda stickers.

Anyway, this is for a future me who panicked. It is worth noting that the device was not jailbroken in anyway.

Since the Aliexpress Sales have ended a couple days ago, there have not really been any crazy deals. While I have posted some (in my opinion) insane deals such as the 36.99 165hz FHD monitor or the Ryzen 7 5800x and 32 GB RAM bundle over the last 2 days, neither of those were actually SBCgaming related. Although, I guess you could make the argument that the monitor is tangentially related to SBCgaming as it is capable of being a video output device for some of the retro console devices.

However, I just found what I think is a great bargain for the price. I was inspired by a post the other day about the walmart 7 inch tablet which was $59.99. At $24.99, with a substantially larger 10 inch screen, and if you don't mind an open box item and an older model, this tablet is a great value for the price. According to emulation tests by etaprime on youtube, this tablet is capable of doing full speed PSP including god of war at 2x and n64 upscaled and dreamcast. At $25, you likely aren't finding anything better in terms of pure price to performance per dollar.

The link to the woot listing is on my spreadsheet here:

Fire HD 10 2019 Specs

All in all, pair that with one of the cheap telescopic controllers I have on my spreadsheet for $10-30, and you have a capable emulation machine. A controller like the BSP D11 would definitely fit this tablet and is often on sale for $15 before coupon stacking during aliexpress sales.

As usual since aliexpress links are blocked on reddit sitewide, I am proving my spreadsheet that includes the link to this tablet on Woot. It should be right at the top in the new section called sample deals.

And as always, in the interest of transparency I am providing two spreadsheets. The first sheet is my regular sheet which includes both affiliate and nonaffiliate links for each item listed. The second sheet is a completely affiliate free spreadsheet devoid of any affiliate links.

Woot also has the code SAVE20 right now that takes 20% off eligible items. Unfortunately, I already tried and this tablet is not eligible for the promotion.

With the storm coming here in central Florida, I wanted to put out a little reminder that some of these devices (in my case the Retroid Pocket 3+) are functional battery powered FM radios when hooked up to headphones. If you’re in the storm area, find 3.5 mm headphones and charge your device NOW if you have such a device. Basically if it’s android based and has an FM Radio app, you just need headphones to act as the antenna.

Owning a variety of both Android and Linux handhelds of various layouts and specs, I find myself continually drawn to using the Miyoo Mini Plus.

Despite its low specs and small size, it consistently performs great, and gives me that excited magical feeling I always hope for when using a Retro Handheld. So I've been trying to think about the reasons why.

The majority is due to Onion OS, and I sooo hope Onion gets developed for other devices too, it's just such a wonderful experience.

The main reasons the Miyoo Mini Plus stands out to me are:

  • It's genuinely portable, so easy to throw in a bag or a pocket, and it's kind of discreet to use in public.
  • It's fast. Something people don't often mention is it boots and shuts down really quickly compared to most devices, same with getting in an out of games. Makes the friction for quickly playing and closing a game very low.
  • Emulation for so many systems works perfectly out of the box in Onion OS. You can tinker if you want, but you don't HAVE to.
  • The game switcher/quick resume is an amazing feature, and works exactly as advertised.
  • The device is both affordable and readily available, meaning it's easy to replace, or buy as a gift.
  • The buttons all feel great, and are all well positioned, except the shoulder buttons are pretty awkward due to the size.
  • Having Wifi is so handy for scraping box art, managing storage via an excellent web interface, as well as retro achievements etc.
  • I really like the screen, it gets plenty bright, and the tiny bezels are so aesthetically pleasing IMO.
  • The built in package management is great, I especially like the activity tracker app and how it's integrated.
  • It's easy to customise, both physically to mod or in the software to make your own themes etc.

All these things come together in such a pretty little package, and personally makes it the best experience I've had with any retro device.

My only wishes would be:

  • A way to change the button layout so I could swap the A & B buttons in the OS itself to be "Xbox layout", not just in RetroArch.
  • That Onion OS would be developed for other systems which have more power, bigger screens/resolutions, better battery life, etc.

Just sharing my love of this system, and curious if others have felt a similar way towards this amazing little device (or other devices).
