TLDR: things like boot time can be more important than screen resolution.

Entered the hobby with the Miyoo Mini+. Had fun and wanted to try something else.

After a lot of research I purchased the Powkiddy RGB30 for crisp GBA scaling and the bright 1:1 screen. Unfortunately a couple of issues ruined the experience:

• Finicky charging—have the make sure the charger is the right kind. Also battery drains heavily even when the device is off.
• Slow startup—not that fun of a pocket device when it takes ~~multiple minutes~~ 38 seconds (vs 17 seconds) to get into a game.

So I bought a Miyoo Mini v4 because it's smaller, has quick boot/resume with OnionOS, and have a more universal charging experience. It's currently on its way and I'm excited to get back to the hobby.

I'm pretty sure $42 dollars is the all time precoupon low for the trimui smart pro. Somehow Aliexpress's search engine is completely broken. They have these "hidden" aggregate deals that they discount a reputable sellers stock in a separate listing just like they did for the r36s a few days ago. Unfortunately, searching for Trimui Smart Pro with their search engine yields no result cheaper than $52. You can use a direct link but reddit doesn't allow aliexpress direct links so you'll have to go to my spreadsheet either on my profile or through this link:

Use a coupon such as CDUS03 or USAFF3 for another 3 bucks off. Unfortunately, the influencer 9 off 30 coupons still have not restocked. Otherwise, we could have seen a $33 TSP post coupon price. You could also add two trimui smart pros to the cart and use an $8 coupon such as CDUS08 or USAFF8 if you happen to want to drop the price even further per unit.

EDIT: Looks like aliexpress caught on and limited it to one per shopper. You can get around this by ordering a different color option such as the white and black 128g option.

I've created a Google Sheet tool that allows you to explore different integer scaling options for retro games on various handheld devices.

I was heavily inspired by Shaun Inman's excellent utility, but found that it didn't have my specific device (Logitech G Cloud) and didn't include a simple overscale option - so I made my own, far less sophisticated (but perhaps more flexible?) tool.

Key features include:

• Selections for a range of devices and consoles, with ability to input custom dimensions
• Calculated comparisons of stretching vs. integer scaling vs. overscaling
• Detailed outputs including image diagonal, scaling multipliers, and black bars or cropped pixels.

Example Use Case: I use this tool to decide which consoles I should integer overscale when playing on my Logitech G Cloud via RetroArch.
