I'm a new chess player and do not understand why the solution to this puzzle is Qc2+ instead of something like Rb8, Qf5, g4 I don't really understand what black could do here to save the Queen?

I personally don't know any gambit, I just try to play the opining following the basic principles. I saved this list from a comment in Reddit time ago:

Unavoidable 2nd move gambits:

  • King's Gambit against 1.e4 e5.
  • Smith-Morra against the Sicilian.
  • Staunton Gambit against the Dutch.
  • Blackmar-Diemer Gambit against 1.d4 d5.
  • Tennison Gambit against the Scandinavian.
  • Grob Gambit against 1.g4 d5.

Avoidable depending on the opponents follow-up but easy to get:

  • Evans Gambit in the Italian.
  • Traxler against the Knight Attack (Italian).
  • Albin Countergambit against the Queen's Gambit.
  • Stafford in the Petrov.

Which one do people prefer? I've personally found the chess.com UI to be a lot warmer and more inviting than lichess, but I'm interested to hear people's opinions

Hey everyone :) I'd like to organize a small tournament for lemmy users. Would anyone be interested in joining? And would you be interested in a specific time format or format? Like would you prefer a one time event or a league format etc

Cheers

If you want to use spaced repetition for studying openings, Listudy.org is the site for you :)

I created this because I like spaced repetition for learning, I have been using anki for studying for exams since years and I wanted to use the same concepts for learning chess. You can find openings to study here or create an account and upload your own studies.

I always appreciate feedback so if you have any please let me know!

Today, Lichess users play more than a million games every day. Lichess is one of the most popular chess websites in the world while remaining 100% free. Most “free” websites subsist by selling ads or selling user data. Others do it by putting all the good stuff behind paywalls. Lichess does none of these things and never will. With no investors demanding profits, Lichess staff can focus on improving the site as their only goal.
