The Musk salute has been the theme of nearly 90% of all posts I've read all week (day? Hour? It's so many I can't keep track)

I see some people complaining it's not a nazi salute, and to be fair, if it was some other famous person not currently courting Germany's afd I could understand the arguments.

But my question is: why have we not seen a massive response from the owner of X that it was not, in fact, a nazi salute? He must be aware. Has he responded and my news circle is just too left leaning? Or has he purposely ignored it?

To me the mere act of not acknowledging it is in fact a confession. But maybe he has and im in too deep in the "other side"

I'm a nurse and I don't do night shifts. The few times I did it I earned a 150% differential but it's not worth the money: I'd go back home and have to use noise cancelling headphones to sleep, 'cause people are loud, I'd wake up rested at 04:00 pm, but completely destroying my circadian rhythm. I'd need a whole day or 2 to recover my regular rhythm because otherwise I'd be a zombie.

I hear my coworkers who do night shift complaining about this same issue, but they still pick up night shifts, which I don't understand.

To me it was impossible to have something akin to a life while working night shift, but I've met some people that only do night shifts: the housewife that only works 4 nights shifts per month, the single mother or young wife or husband who work 14 night shifts per month and have the next 2 weeks for him/herself...

I don't understand why they do it. It's extremely taxing and not worth it imho.

But if you do, how do you have a life? And how do you keep yourself healthy?

I'm not in the US, but it seems to me that the Republicans keep breaking norms and procedures, including politicising impeachment and ignoring illegal, immoral and plain bad conduct.

They also seem to be fine with not applying the same standard across the isle.

On the other hand, either Democrats follow new precedent, with even more devolving, or they keep the old decorum and get their asses kicked by Republican foul play.

What ways out of this spiral are there?

US question, but why don't Democrats just vote for impeachment basically every day? Whether it's for the Jack Smith findings, the unwillingness to hold up the 14th amendment, whatever. Like, is there a statute of limitations for impeachment? Is there a limited number of crimes valid for it?

I commented something that I later found out was false. No one corrected me until after I googled what I had written to find out it had a logical fallacy. Not only did it get almost 100 replies, but it is growing in the thousands of upvotes. It's also a comment that got the most attention in a while, for me.

I understand concepts like The Cunningham Effect/Law where to get the right answer propose something false instead of just asking a question. That states that people behaviorally are more likely to correct you giving you the answer you want. However, this was more of an idea/conclusion that had a false premise. Over the course of a day, it grew in popularity. I thought it would get downvoted but as people criticized, belittled and corrected me, they also upvoted it greatly. No one agreed my idea was good, nor that it was funny.

Despite the controversy, the comments and upvotes make me feel like the idea was "successful" in a way as it was light hearted and a kidding tone.

What causes this to be a success on many social media platforms when other examples of this type just get down voted and buried? Is there an applicable name for this type of phenomenon? Has anyone had a similar experience?

To me, it looks like it's clearly a Hitler salute and the logical conclusion is he's a white supremacist. But I am just wondering if everyone else sees this that way with no room for it being a result of autism and definitely that.

Is it really that the president is all that decides about the future of democracy itself? Is 53 out of 100 senate seats really enough to make country fall into authoritarian regime? Is the army really not constitutionally obliged to step in and save the day?

I’ve been studying Portuguese for almost two years. By fifteen years, I obviously hope to be fluent.

I do have an English-speaking friend who lives in Brazil, and she complained about her (mandatory) English teacher not pronouncing the words right, but I happen to be a native speaker, so I probably would pronounce them better than her teacher.

I’ve only met one person who spoke Portuguese where I live, and though I would be put through a less complex process to just stay in the United States, I’m not actually sure how many people would come.

For example, in Chicago, there are Polish schools, which are definitely more useful than Portuguese classes.

Basically my girlfriend and I who are from Germany are planning to travel to the USA. We were hearing stuff that some Americans socially divide people by their ethnicity. I just wanted to ask online whether this is true and if there could be any concerns because my skin is very bright and my girlfriends skin is very dark.

Normally we never really cared or talked about this since at least in our community (where we are from) no one makes a thing out of it and we both just identify as German. But I heard that in some procedures in America you have to say what your ethnicity is? We even heard things like that in some places they divide people by "skin color" and base different cultures on that (we noticed that people from America even speak and behave differently based on whether they identify as "black" or "white") and even have schools for primarily people with dark skin or so. And this concept is very new to us since our skin was never any topic for us and we are somewhat insecure that someone could say something since we look so different and are a couple and we don't know if this could be "weird" for some Americans?

Every now and then I encounter writing like this (often it's something someone is showing me) and I just read it, and then I re-read it and then I re-re-read it and my mind just stays completely blank and I have no clue of what it's saying.
