At least on the communities i follow. Every so often I come across a thread where i recognize most of the users there even in the big communities with over 30k members and I haven't even been on lemmy that long.

In the US most students recite "the pledge of allegiance" every morning before school, which is kind of crazy. If you were in charge, what if anything would you replace it with?

My younger cousin comes over today (like every few months) and we will be playing some couch coop games over the weekend.

So far we tried a lot of games and found some great ones along the way. Sidescrollers work sometimes, but third person and isometric is better. And I won't touch another twin stick shooter haha. Do y'all have any suggestions, it's always so much work to find a good new game (as opposed to just going after steam review, buying, and returning within 30min of playtime because it sucked).

Honorable mentions:

  • Swords of Ditto (literally no one plays this, but it's a pretty neat co-op zelda-like
  • Darksiders Genesis (hack n slash)
  • It takes Two (co-op puzzle)
  • Children of Morta (great roguelite)

I also bought Secret of Mana, maybe we'll play this.

At the end of his life, my grandpa subsisted on 2 pints of strawberry banana yoplait yogurt and a pack of Coors light a day. What dietary hell will you fall into?

Interested to hear what you think.

I read that half of Americans couldn’t cover an unexpected $1,000 expense. This sounds crazy to me. I understand that poverty exists, but the idea that an adult with a job doesn’t even have that amount saved up seems really strange.

What’s your relationship or philosophy with money? What do you credit for your financial success, or alternatively, what do you blame for your failures?

For the extra brave ones: how much savings do you have, and what are you planning to do with them?

Gotta keep it vague for privacy but the key details should be enough. We first met through a dating app. It didn't work out. We remained friends. Became best friends. They fell on terribly hard times. They moved in with me. Sleeping on the couch was not good for the long term. We now share a bed, and eventually went halvesies on a new bigger one. We became very close over the past few years. I love my best friend. Sometimes do non intercourse sexish things but have no interest in a relationship. Hard times are likely to continue due to external problems that despite our best efforts, will not likely go away. I'd never kick them out, it would be on the level of hurting a puppy. What kind of monster would do that? I have been wanting a relationship but it would be awkward to have to explain all this to any new partners. I can't even imagine how my friend would take it. I wouldn't want to sacrifice our relationship just so I can start dating again. A room in the apartment is vacant now and they could move into that one but I dread broaching the topic to them. I don't know how they're going to react and no matter what happens I want to keep this person in my life. We're getting older and there's no guarantee that the "hard times" will go away. It might even last the rest of our lives. I don't know what to do. I can't face the reality that they might leave rather than watch me do my own thing. How do I have my cake and eat it too?

Can be from any kind of media.

For me it's Margot from The Magicians (which is interesting because in the books she is anything but) and Jesse Faden from Control.

Does someone know this instagram creator doing reels about house plants and how to preserve groceries? He has long brown hair and edits a slash sound into his videos and he quickly moves the thing he's talking about to the camera and then moves it back again. It's a weird description but I can't remember anything else. I hope someone can help me out!

I haven't been able to post anything for the last two days. I don't know if I was banned for a bit or not since I received no notice or warning.

If it wasn't a ban what happened?

Personally I'd say cave diving. I was contemplating between that and free ~~climbing~~ soloing but I honestly rather fall to my death than drown in a claustrophobic, dark, cold, silted up cave.

My follow up curiosity: how can we find success & sustainability in meeting our basic needs and security by turning our backs right back on global industry (and government) by working inward within our local communities?

I personally will never not trust my gut feeling.

Received a text from a pollster asking me who I'm going to vote for, is there any good reason to respond?

I've been interested in checking out some "DIY" boardgames, ones that you could just print the pieces/sheets/cards/tokens/etc and play.

I'm mostly interested in boardgames that can be played with 4+ people and require little setup or rules introduction, as I'm pretty much being the "gateway drug" for the group (everyone I've shown Blokus so far has loved the game).

I'm ok with knowing about heavy games (stuff that takes an afternoon to finish) to keep an eye on for future reference

How would you approach persuading a far extreme liberal toward center? What would you set as a realistic goal for a productive discourse? Would it be better attempt to do so in person rather than online?

Are there any animes or TV shows you can't stop recommending?

In other thread I got vibe that majority of Lemmy users support communism and CCP. Is support for Russia/Putin? Or have I just stumble in a post dominated by those people.

I also read a phrase "lemmy.ml" user. Is lemmy.ml instance considered communist?

I understand there will be more left leaning users in Lemmy compared to Reddit. But I expected moderate left and not radical communist left.

What is your opinion on that?
