One of my home smoke alarm recently started beeping, I went to replace the battery and noticed the smoke alarm itself has an expiry/do not use past date on it, which I'm well past now.

So off I go to Mitre 10 and Bunnings' websites to find new smoke alarms, only to come across 1 star review ratings on almost all of the traditional 9v battery powered alarms. Frequent complaints of failure to detect smoke, random beeping and more.

The same goes for the newer "10 year built in battery" disposable alarms - complaints of failure to detect smoke, batteries lasting less than 2 years etc. making these more expensive, but less maintenance required options seem like a bad choice also.

Seriously - give it a look yourself and I'm sure you'll be surprised like me at how poorly rated almost every option is.

So where does one purchase a proper smoke alarm these days?

Just a bit of a rant, but shit is fucked. Why are offices still forcing employees to come in sick? Have we not learnt from COVID? Came down with a cold (not sick enough to not work though), everything can be done WFH, and management is like, haha lol, either come in to the office or burn though all your sick leave. No option for WFH. WTF.

Had a meeting with my manager to let them know I've resigned. Gave my formal resignation letter and had a sit down with the department head.

My current employer is very secretive when it comes to resignations (has track record of high turn overs)

Am I at liberty to let my colleague's know? I feel awkward giving them the perception that I'm still here for the long haul.

I was looking at a post from a year ago, asking if NZ had Ren Faires. Ive seen some historical re-enactment faires that do go on during summer. The craftsmanship for those look amazing. But I do wish we had events that were more fantasy genre focused. Magic, Wizards, etc.

Part of me wants to do a get together and do this some day. Even just small scale event for people to dress up and pretend for a day were in a fantasy world you know? Am I the only one?

On Saturday around 2pm I had my work van broken into in the carpark of my local golf course. It's situated on a main road, the course was super busy and somehow no one saw a fucking thing. 9 grand worth of tools gone because some junkie needs their fix, and to make matters worse the Police are fucking useless. The writings been on the wall for awhile that everything is fucked, but this seems like a whole new low.

Thank fuck for insurance, a few of my tools were gifts or just random things I've accumulated over the years so chances are I won't get everything back but it won't be far off. Truly the only saving grace from this situation.

I love avoiding the news. But why? For me, due to the lack of quality of reporting, click bait, opinion articles and constant inaccuracy in every article. All adds to zero trust. Anyway - enough about me and my issues! This is an interesting bit of research (which was shared with me) and why people tend to avoid the news.

Why do you avoid the news?

I'm reaching out to the community for support as one of the 6,000 former public servants affected by recent cuts. After eight months of searching and applying for numerous roles, I’ve found it challenging to even secure an interview. Despite confirming with multiple recruitment agencies that my CV and cover letters are well-targeted and reflective of my experience, the opportunities have not materialized.

I’ve been relying on my payout during this period, but it has now run out. As a result, I’ve had to apply for Job Seeker assistance—something I never imagined needing to do, but it’s a reality many of us face in these times.

My experience spans across a range of fields including Customer Service, Training, Operational Management, Service Design (UX and UI), Process Improvement, Project and Product Management, and Strategic Delivery. I also bring strong soft skills such as Communication, Relationship Management, Coaching and Mentoring, Stewardship, Conflict Management, and a genuine passion for customer care and team leadership.

If anyone has advice, connections, or knows of opportunities where I could contribute my skills, I would deeply appreciate your support.

I live in the Wairarapa/Wellington Thank you
