All the Windows OS drivers for the Steam Deck OLED were released, except for the speakers for the device. But now, the driver is here so people can install Windows...if they want to!

This is different from Bazzite and some of the other SteamOS similar operating systems by being as close to vanilla SteamOS as possible.

According to the devs:

It's a SteamOS based distribution that is intended to be as close to 1:1 compatible with upstream SteamOS as possible while making changes to support a wider range of hardware. It originated as a fork of HoloISO but it has been majorly overhauled to eliminate things like post-copy operations (as much as possible), introduce our own signed package repositories, add an automated release process, and provide many bug fixes and refinements. The focus has largely been on handheld gaming consoles, but it's in use on a variety of AMD based mini PCs as well.

I’m considering getting a silicone cover for the steamdeck I’ve just ordered.

I was wondering how snug the fit is with the official carrying case. Would I need to remove the Yono silicone cover to carry it in the steam carry case?

I received the Steamdeck and tried it on, it fits in the case with the sleeve ✅

Thanks for your feedback 🙏

At Gamescom, we got a chance to take a look at the upcoming souls-like from NEXON: The First Berserker: Khazan, and we have some thoughts on it. You can read about those in the article below, including the part where we got confirmation that NEXON is working on Steam Deck support for the game!

Over the last week or so, I went to Gamescom to represent SteamDeckHQ, and it was a blast. I got to see so many awesome games and talk to many developers and publishers, and the majority of them were either very receptive, optimistic, or have already started implementing Steam Deck support!

In our article, we go over some examples, as well as me being known as "The Steam Deck Guy." Though one I am happy to share is that the upcoming Epic Mickey Rebrushed will have full Steam Deck support at launch, and playing it on the Deck at Gamescom was phenomenal.

There's much more we go into detail with in the article, but in the end, it's looking very optimistic for Steam Deck support for future games.

This is debatable if it belongs here, but since these will be running Bazzite they're basically emulation focused Steam Machines. I think these have enough overlap with the Deck to be worth discussing here.

For those who don't know:

  • Emudeck provides a series of tools to make setting up emulation on the Steam Deck easy. Includes installing emulators, setting up control schemes, installing CRT shaders, and adding emulated titles to Steam so that you can run them like native steam games.

  • Bazzite is a SteamOS alternative. Biggest difference is that it's based on Fedora linux instead of Arch linux. Otherwise it provides a similar experience to SteamOS, with a steam based game mode, decky extension support, and many other similarities. It's main advantages are that it works on non-Deck hardware, supports permanently installing non-flatpak linux software, and lets you use different linux desktops besides KDE.

It seems like Steam is having issue, at the moment, if you can't login or are stuck in a loading screen, don't panic, I'm sure eveything will be back to normal soon!

If you're having issue, don't hesitate to comment here too.

A particularly fun bit:

So then, how about Fortnite on Linux / Steam Deck? Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney said when it hits "tens of millions of users" that it "would actually make sense to support it". We must be pretty close by now right? Why ignore a platform that's sold multiple millions, and is clearly just continuing to fly off the shelves?

I am currently trying to create a hotkey, that executes a sequence of inputs, to switch my equipment efficiently.

What I need is a way to disable all other inputs, while it is executed. As well as a way to only have it executed once per button press. Independent from how long it's being held.

This is a guide and shell script to run steam through gamescope on a non-logged in Linux system.

Basically you can remotely connect to your Linux system through ssh, start steam without a desktop environment, and the games will run that way only accessible to the remote streaming devices (ie steam deck, steam link, or other paired steam client).

How do you mod games on the Steam Deck or Linux in general? I've seen so many videos and tutorials but nothing seemed to work.

Hey folks, long time first time.

I'm interested in getting some recommendations for default settings for my OLED Steam Deck which I mainly use hooked up to my 55" TV in my living room.

Main questions:

  1. what should I use for default settings on the Steam Deck for this setup?
  2. what game specific settings should I make for games, and do I make those in Steam for each game (Game library page - properties - game resolution: default/native/specific) or inside each game's options menu?

If it helps, here's a list of games I'm mostly playing:

Skyrim DRG Unrailed Bramble Gloomhaven

Gloomhaven specifically is something I would like help with because it's so much text and lots of things that end up over lapping (card side drawer on the left with the character action/initiative tiles displayed at the top)

Thank you in advance for any help dumbing this down for me!

I know I can install it using Pacman but for that I need to create a root password and then run some command to install programs on the OS which is immutable, but honestly if all I want is to install KDE Connect I see unnecessary to do all that, isn't there a simpler way?

I already tried with flatpak but there is no KDE-Connect repository in flatpak, and following this Reddit tutorial doesn't really lead to anything since the repository seems to be dead.

Edit: KDE Connect came pre-installed in the Deck.

Curious how people view the steam deck and if most/all their games are supported?
