A federal judge has ordered prosecutors to respond to a letter from Luigi Mangione’s legal team alleging that Trump administration officials’ recent social media posts about the case appear to have violated his right to a fair trial.

“It appears … that multiple employees at the Department of Justice may have violated Local Criminal Rule 23.1, and this Court’s order of April 25, 2025 specifically identifying the strictures of this rule,” U.S. District Judge Margaret M. Garnett wrote in her order on September 24 in response to the letter.

The rule stipulates that “non-lawyer personnel employed by a lawyer’s office or subject to a lawyer’s supervision” in a criminal case have a duty not to release an “opinion that a reasonable person would expect to be disseminated by means of public communication” if there is a chance that the opinion will “interfere with a fair trial or otherwise prejudice the due administration of justice.”

The DHS chief has been widely criticized for slowing down FEMA’s response after natural disasters. Texts and emails obtained by ProPublica point to an effective way to get help faster: have one of Noem’s big donors make the ask.

Something happened between then and now because his audience is GONE, and his “talent” was never there. In a blatant attack on free speech and a continuation of this administration’s descent into authoritarian control and censorship, ABC and Disney have caved to pressure from the Trump administration and MAGA Republicans to suspend late-night host Jimmy Kimmel.

Kimmel was pulled for pointing out how the Trump administration and Republicans exploited Charlie Kirk’s murder—and the hypocrisy between their statements and actions.

Kimmel wasn’t axed for his remarks on Kirk—he was suspended for using his platform to expose and critique our government. Enough! We especially need large corporations, with the money and influence they have, to fight back.

The FCC may give Disney its license, but it’s everyday people who make Disney relevant. If they want the trust of their customers, they have to reverse this terrible decision, reinstate Kimmel, and demonstrate that they will fight back against censorship NOW!

Criticism — and concern about free speech — is pouring in after ABC abruptly suspended Jimmy Kimmel Live! under pressure from the Trump administration.

ABC announced Wednesday that it would take Kimmel's show off the air indefinitely, after threats from Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Brendan Carr to the stations that carry it. Speaking on a podcast hosted by a conservative commentator, Carr took issue with comments Kimmel had made in Monday's onscreen monologue about Republicans' reaction to Charlie Kirk's killing, which the late-night host had previously condemned.

When asked about Kimmel's suspension at a press conference Thursday morning, President Trump said Kimmel was "fired because he had bad ratings more than anything else, and he said a horrible thing about a great gentleman known as Charlie Kirk."

"You can call that free speech or not, he was fired for lack of talent," Trump said.

Civil rights groups, labor unions, Democratic politicians and Hollywood A-listers have condemned the move as an attack on the First Amendment, not only for Kimmel and his writers but for Americans as a whole.
