Hey, this is a really good app. the communities have grown enough to actually be a really good alternative to reddit.

my requests, can we have the ability to discover new communities within an instance our account is logged in to? I'm having to go to the actual instance in browser to subscribe and add a community to my feed.

also, can there be a context menu item to request to federate/subscribe to a community with another account? I'm finding I've have to make accounts in multiple instances since some have communities that are exclusive to their network so it would make migrating easier.

For the first part, you can find new communities on the search tab either by searching for one or using the explore, the random community or by visiting a trending community. Then on the community page press the three dots and select subscribe

For the second part, if you are missing some communities it is a specific decision by your instance. What communities are missing on what instance? Optimally you should be able to use a instance that has all of the communities you want.

nice ๐Ÿ‘ okay thanks for bearing with me on that first one. that actually works really well.

so, even on lemmy.world the instance hub in the far left tab only shows the communities I've either subscribed to or favorited or federated while using lemmy with a browser. we can't browse the local instance communities. maybe that's as-intended, i just thought it was worth mentioning because that's something you can do while using lemmy in-browser

That is the overview of your subscribed communities. To view all communities press on search and then explore, and for the lokal ones press the globe on the explore page and select lokal

I would keep it so someone else can find it when searching for the same thing. Iโ€™d just add [Solved] or similar to the title

good point. i also just found out i can migrate entire subscriptions lists between instances by exporting and importing from the settings menu in the browser. hopefully that helps somebody out, too

thank you for your responses ๐Ÿ™‚
