Then the US military is no longer worthy of respect.
Trump is correcting a mistake he made the first term. In order to have a successful coup, you require military support. This term the Trump team started immediately filling the DoD with yesmen. I have zero doubt that by the time this term ends, if Trump wants to stay in office, the military will not intervene.
I doubt there will even be legit elections anyway. More like a referendum: "Do you like Trump. YES or no"
I'm thinking you're both correct.
More like the Russian Annexion referendums:
"Do you want to enjoy our big-handed god emperor Donald Jesus Trump's power permanently? ☐ Yes"
