Why are there price discrepancies for GTA VI? (nord.pub)

For example, GTA VI in Japan is quoting at:

However I've heard that it's going to cost:

  • $79.99 & $99.99 (US, excl. ST) but you'll pay more with taxes
  • 79,99€ & 99,99€ (EU, inc. VAT) - taxes are finalized in the price
  • £69.99 & £89.99 (UK, inc. VAT) - taxes are finalized in the price
  • A$129.95 & A$159.95 (AU, inc. GST) - taxes are finalized in the price

I mean, why is priced differently? Would you pay $/€100 for the Ultimate edition upon release for example?

Which currency do you use? I'm paying in Yen, so it's considered cheaper in that sense. Even then, would I be allowed to send the game as a gift across regions to other players via Steam?

I think if the price difference is sizeable (I think over 10% cheaper/more expensive) then no. If the prices are close enough then yes. The easiest workaround to that is just to gift the person a steam gift card, I suppose

To put it in perspective, the ultimate edition is ¥12,280 (66€) while the same is 100€ so it's already a 34€ difference. I'm shocked when I found out it was going to be that much in Japan considering the economical situation plus weak Yen (explains why there're so many tourists) and Japanese gamers consider themselves luckier in that sense in comparison to others as regional pricing was taken into account.
