A community for your defence shitposting needs

Rules

1. Be niceDo not make personal attacks against each other, call for violence against anyone, or intentionally antagonize people in the comment sections.

2. Explain incorrect defense articles and takes

If you want to post a non-credible take, it must be from a "credible" source (news article, politician, or military leader) and must have a comment laying out exactly why it's non-credible. Low-hanging fruit such as random Twitter and YouTube comments belong in the Matrix chat.

3. Content must be relevant

Posts must be about military hardware or international security/defense. This is not the page to fawn over Youtube personalities, simp over political leaders, or discuss other areas of international policy.

4. No racism / hatespeech

No slurs. No advocating for the killing of people or insulting them based on physical, religious, or ideological traits.

5. No politics

We don't care if you're Republican, Democrat, Socialist, Stalinist, Baathist, or some other hot mess. Leave it at the door. This applies to comments as well.

6. No seriousposting

We don't want your uncut war footage, fundraisers, credible news articles, or other such things. The world is already serious enough as it is.

7. No classified material

Classified ‘western’ information is off limits regardless of how "open source" and "easy to find" it is.

8. Source artwork

If you use somebody's art in your post or as your post, the OP must provide a direct link to the art's source in the comment section, or a good reason why this was not possible (such as the artist deleting their account). The source should be a place that the artist themselves uploaded the art. A booru is not a source. A watermark is not a source.

9. No low-effort posts

No egregiously low effort posts. E.g. screenshots, recent reposts, simple reaction & template memes, and images with the punchline in the title. Put these in weekly Matrix chat instead.

10. Don't get us banned

No brigading or harassing other communities. Do not post memes with a "haha people that I hate died… haha" punchline or violating the sh.itjust.works rules (below). This includes content illegal in Canada.

11. No misinformation

NCD exists to make fun of misinformation, not to spread it. Make outlandish claims, but if your take doesn’t show signs of satire or exaggeration it will be removed. Misleading content may result in a ban. Regardless of source, don’t post obvious propaganda or fake news. Double-check facts and don't be an idiot.

Your comment is the funniest shit I've read today. Thank you King/Queen.

[–] psmgx@lemmy.world 152 points 6 months ago (7 children)

Is anyone really surprised? of course 4chan posts are russian propaganda, this time they just got lazy.

at this point you can assume 90% of *chan posts are basically agit-prop. the actual weirdos post on reddit now

[–] Zehzin@lemmy.world 81 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I think it's a mistake to underestimate the amount of weirdos on 4chan

[–] Anyolduser@lemmynsfw.com 48 points 6 months ago

And the amount of propaganda everywhere else, for that matter.

Only on /pol and /b. Most of the blue boards are still populated by autistic obsessives for their favorite hobbies.

[–] Soulg@sh.itjust.works 30 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Nah 4chan is nothing but nazis. I know because a bunch of people who have never been there keep saying so.

[–] Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 6 months ago

I mean, idk out nazis but racism is well and alive on plenty of boards besides b and Pol.

[–] Vendetta9076@sh.itjust.works 16 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Most of 4chan has nothing to do with politics or propaganda. The ones that are reposted mostly all come from two boards. /b/ and /pol/. Also your reddit comment is weird cause reddit is just full of bots now.

[–] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 13 points 6 months ago (1 children)

only the two most active areas of 4chan, no big deal lol.

[–] Vendetta9076@sh.itjust.works 4 points 6 months ago

Actually /VG/ is the most active. /pol/ is second and /b/ is 5th.

There was a time recently when Internet connection to Russia got severed for a few hours and a lot of people wrote posts about how friendly and polite people on the Internet were during that time.

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 11 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago)

9Gag is pretty bad with them as well. They used to push anti-vax and anti-mask disinformation with obvious bad faith arguments there during the COVID period. Then when the "special military operation" started in Ukraine they immediately switched to posting pro-Russia bullshit.

Until then I was only thinking this sort of nonsense was there as a result of the website being more open to diverse political views, for better or worse. But that sudden switch made me realize that it was actually a team of people trying to sow the seeds of disarray in any way they could for the Western world by pushing disinformation like this on websites mostly frequented by young adult males, who can be vulnerable to radicalization. To think back to it, it was obvious that they were using a bot farm to upvote their content as well. I haven't set foot on that echo chamber or propaganda and conspiracy nonsense since then. I can only assume this sort of thing is still going on there.

[–] Socsa@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Lemmy as well, but they all pretend to be communists for some reason.

I wonder if that's some kind of dog whistle...

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago

It's always been agitprop for one thing or another. Hell, I was an edgy teen over a decade ago and there was always a BBC thread and a WHITES ONLY thread running at all times, and both were interspersed about how jews wanted blacks to cuck all the white guys. Truly unhinged shit.

[–] Varyag@lemm.ee 103 points 6 months ago (1 children)

I mean even without that slip up the rest of the message still gives them away. Who the fuck would say that without being a vatnik shill.

[–] fuckingkangaroos@lemm.ee 35 points 6 months ago

Useful idiots who've been suckered into the Kremlin's disinformation campaigns by the millions.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 51 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Easily repairable? Lol.

Allies? Lol.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 23 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I guess it depends on what breaks. Some random valve snaps? There's probably two or more backups.

Some random distiller happens to spontaneously explode in a random smoking accident? Probably not quite so easy to fix.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 12 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Any decent bomb or missile is going to do a lot more than break a valve.

[–] Tar_alcaran@sh.itjust.works 16 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (2 children)

That was indeed implied, yes. Refineries are built pretty damage-resistant, because otherwise any random breakage would make them go up in flames.

Although... No promises about Russian safety systems.

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 18 points 6 months ago (1 children)

The fractionating columns, however, are bespoke parts that are costly and have long lead times, and also are large and fragile, at least from the point of view of a properly targeted missile. Before the war, Russia relied on Western specialist firms to provide those, which is no longer an option.

None of the machining companies in Mykolaiv are returning our calls, in spite of our impeccable Carolina of the South accents.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.ca 8 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (1 children)

Well damage resistant to normal operations and prevent cascade failures. But the damage resistant part doesn't extend to bombs.

I'm very annoyed that the cyrillic letters aren't in the same keys as their roman counterparts when valid

[–] IoSapsai@lemm.ee 11 points 6 months ago* (last edited 6 months ago) (3 children)

Country standards from the typewriter era. In Bulgaria we have a different layout from the Russian one, using the same Cyrillic letters (stuff like э and ы that we don’t use) but most people use the “phonetic” keyboard which is the one you describe. Also in casual conversations a lot of people don’t even bother to use Cyrillic and go with latin instead even if it’s not official or standardised in any way.

Dvorak Simplified Keyboard intensifies

Different keyboard layouts exist for various reasons. It's not always a great idea to try to unify things like that.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 3 points 6 months ago (3 children)

On one hand I agree. On the other hand being a dvorak user has been a massive pain in my ass (but a significantly smaller pain in my wrists)

We in Germany have qwertz plus äöü ß ... But also use the Roman.

[–] gentooer@programming.dev 4 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I truly don't understand qwertz. That being said, in Flanders we use azerty, while the Dutch use qwerty, despite us speaking the same language.

I appreciate the Basterds reference. 🫵😉

Though honestly, without keyboard knowledge, I would have assumed changing Belgium's name for something else is a white supremacist dogwhistle. This is 4chan afterall.
