i started smoking cigarettes a while ago and noticed i get very relaxed when the headrush kicks in obviously i don't want to make smoking a habit, should i ask my doctor about getting back on ritalin or something or would that make manic episodes worse i already take geodon so i should at least be a bit sedated

You should not seek medical advice on the internet. Speak to a professional and explain your symptoms, experience and concerns.

I hope you find peace

The relaxation you feel is the alleviation of withdrawal symptoms, which come in ~~her~~ very quickly after the last cigarette. It's not ACTUAL relaxation. I'm super sensitive to simulants and nicotine was messing me up so bad without even realizing it.

yeah thats why im afraid to start on ritalin again because idk if it was causing manic episodes or not

You should see what the p-doc has to say. Were you in Ritalin before, when you had an ADHD diagnosis or something? Or was it used to help you with your BP?

back then i didnt have a bipolar diagnosis but when i was diagnosed i said ive mostly been dealing with it all my life. i was also on risperidone as a child so they knew i had some symptoms. ritalin was for adhd/tourette's syndrome.

thought some people might have experience at least

Please consult with a doctor - and I hope cigarettes are not the solution. I've seen what tobacco does, and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

I’m bi-polar. Ritalin was safe-ish for me to use in moderation. I liked it too much and pushed myself into a manic episode because hey I’m being so productive I’ll just have one more. Be careful. And as someone else pointed out, consult a doctor.

It might be worth considering your age as well. When I was younger my bi-polar was more acute. If you’re in the stage where it’s recently begun to emerge (usually 20s or early 30s) you may be at greater risk. I was in the early stages of experiencing manic episodes when the above took place. I’m much better at managing my condition now just from experience from living with it. Be careful.

i've had symptoms since around 7 years old and been medicated since then, on ritalin and risperidone for adhd/tourettes

wasn't diagnosed with bipolar until like 25 but i noticed i don't function as well without ritalin as i did back in high school. thought i'd ask here in case i was just grasping at straws before i schedule a psychiatrist appointment for something that might negatively affect me

I strongly advise against smoking cigarettes. My mom died from smoking them when she was just 69. It was a slow and miserable death for her. ☠️

Ask your doctor about Wellbutrin. This is in many studies for BP and also is used for smoking cessation.
