It's starting to sink in now. I think I was a bit in shock yesterday.

God I can't wait to start!

Ohhhh your job! Yes!

Oof, that was not a good sleep... Had to sleep with headphones listening to YouTube because my mind just wouldn't turn off and I was so paranoid and anxious. Everytime I turned over I was like "but now my back is to the door, what if somebody comes in", and same goes for laying the other way and having my back to the window. Spent 2 hours trying to fall asleep, then woke up every 40 minutes or so in a sweat and had to get up and check that my door and window were both still locked

The worker who was here overnight gave me good vibes. Big Islander dude, seemed chill. No worries about my safety (logically, anyway). That's probably why I got my 3 hours of sleep at all

Edit: after a shower, I'm feeling a bit less nervous. Just trying to distract myself with my usual routine. I also decided that not listening to anything so I can keep an ear out for any strange noises is a bad idea when this house is like 100 years old and makes even more noise than usual during winter, so I have some music on

[โ€“] Cendana@aussie.zone 8 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Sorry to hear.. :(

Is putting a chair back to the door help at all?

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 8 points 4 months ago

It probably would, but I'm not sure it's worth the effort. As I discovered yesterday, this lock holds up surprisingly well to break in attempts (deadbolt) and kick attempts. The only way in is either a key (which is kept at the office and the workers don't have access to), or a solid hip and shoulder in which case I probably have bigger problems

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Baku you should get a wedge for your door. Super cheap and very effective.

I just found out there's an ATV Buggy fun course not too far from my home.

You drive over jumps, through tunnels, water obstacles, over cars and lots more!

......I'm gonna die spectacularly

During lockdowns I found a website 1001 Albums to listen to before you die.

I try to do an album a day during the week, but sometimes cannot be bothered.

It's definitely broadened by musical horizons, but has also introduced me to some absolutely crap (yes I know music is subjective) that is somehow popular.

Definitely suggest it to everyone.

Fucking hell I need to get better security on all of my stuff.

I realised that the drongo also nicked an Xbox I had in my spare room. I haven't played it in some time, but apparently at some stage it's become disconnected from my Microsoft account so I can't report it stolen or get the serial number. My MacBook I'd just reset like a month ago and forgot to turn on find my device. And I got an email from Amazon that somebody was trying to reset my password. I rejected the request but realised I forgot to sign out of prime on a hotel tv, so I reset my password. Which deregistered my echo dot from my Amazon account, so I can't get the serial number.

I thought I was good at keeping my devices secure and locked down. Evidently I am not anywhere near as good as I thought. I guess I've felt too safe for too long to keep up with maintenance and security. I suppose it's a learning opportunity but I just feel like an idiot. Ugh

Bit of a server struggle to load the page just now. Anyway just finishing my last solid food pre-surgery. I hope porridge and a protein shake count as a light meal.

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 7 points 4 months ago

I think that's about the time the server used to restart (is that still a thing?), and also runs maintenance tasks or something. Always slow for me around then

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 12 points 4 months ago (13 children)

I'm starting to feel more safe now. Still not 100, not even 30% honestly, but each day that passes, I feel 1 or 2% safer. I'm still jumping at noises, still lock my room when I go to the bathroom, and have a just I'm case knife on my bedside table.

I finally wrote an email to my care team informing them of the situation, they'll probably start checking in more frequently, and will also put pressure on the org to replace my stolen and damaged stuff. The police assistance line said I should call the station handling the case tomorrow if they don't contact me first, but tomorrow's a busy day so I might give them a bonus 24 hours. My spare room is still a "crime scene" though, so I can't work on cleaning it up, or go tinker with my projects.

In a kind of dark and twisted way, it's also ironic that they moved him in here to cut costs (Resi is expensive), and in the end it's probably coated them the same if not more. I'd say he's caused about 1-2k in property damage to them alone, plus about 1.5k to me (plus another 1.5k in theft). They also had to have 24/7 staffing while he was alone, and even now since I still don't feel safe, they're still paying for an overnight worker. Really the only thing they really "saved" was not having to buy groceries for him, but it seems like he was bad with managing money, so they probably had to anyway. Seems like the cost cutting really worked for them ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

Oh, also, I think I have permanent, irrevocable "I told you so" rights now...

Today's "you must've had a shit day mate" award runner up prize goes to the young bloke in hi viz who exited his car as it was at a 30 degree incline on the back of a tow truck and had to climb down.

The winner goes to whoever is gonna be held responsible for the Derrimut factory fire.

On a brighter note, some really lovely news, I received a surprisingly chunky bonus from one of my jobs (despite not being there that long). I have the option of salary sacrificing it or having it paid out as taxed wages. I would've liked to put it all to super but frankly I could do with liquid cash atm. Buys me more time later in the year for when I can't work as hard.

Now to whip up some hearty green curry. So good for throwing all the veg in!!

I dropped my kid and her friend off at the station and I said "watch out for gypsies tramps and thieves".

And I got nothing back. Not even a smile.

[โ€“] Baku@aussie.zone 7 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Nah you're not using the right lingo, you've gotta say eshays and bogans. I'd also throw in drongos, but gronks could work too

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 4 months ago

Bitches, eshays and sketchy people

Melbourne's public transport is a joke.

Waiting at Flinders for the train.

"signalling fault".

Catch a train to north Melbourne.

Then an "alternative service to Footscray".

Then another "alternative service" to keep going.

Decided to call in sick for tomorrow. The de-toothified area is quite painful and swollen - I think I'd be fine working in a standard office job, but having to speak all day with a sore mouth does not sound fun. The dental surgeon was a bit confusing about his recommendations for time off - verbally he told me I'd be fine to go back to work almost straight away, but he wrote me a certificate for three days off.

Spent four hours out of home. Out to Prahan, back into Flinders to Spencer St. Then hung out with my partner for his lunch. Dropped into a shop on the way home and now I'm actually back.

The cat is pleased with my return and the bribe of wet food to remain on his good side.

...I forgot toilet paper. FML.

Edit: whoa that factory fire I saw from docklands with my partner earlier. I actually pointed it out but thought it was just pollution from a factory.

I guess it's still pollution, but from an explosion - which is cooler as long as no one is dead

Edit: holy! Check out the flying barrel! Scroll down to the interview with the chief and they show a clip. Wild!

I heard there was a great place to grab breakfast around here. Lots of bacon. Can anyone tell me where to find it?

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 10 points 4 months ago (2 children)

It is now a fancy food truck. You don't find it, it finds you.

Put together my new bed last night. Added the mattress. Took a good 3 hours by myself, but it didn't break apart (and only one minor mistake that I managed to fix without having to take everything apart). So I call that a win.

Slept like a baby. Bit sore today though. I guess a mix of putting the bed together and the new mattress.

Now it's clean up. Soooo much styrofoam. The cardboard is in the car to take to the transfer station. Then gotta put the old bed in the car for the next trip. And then somehow get the mattress there.

In other news, my next Tassie western short story is releasing on Friyay!

Finally updated my phone, the new one has been sitting in a drawer for months only to find Memmy is no longer available? Oh well, back to Mlem.

Also, why do some apps stay logged in and others require re-logging in, not to mention emailsโ€ฆ The joys of technology. Though, canโ€™t complain considering how easy the transfer is to get up and running.

Now need to get the screen protector and cover. If only I could just get upโ€ฆ

Have had a busy morning - dropped the car in to fix a couple of things when I clipped a few things during the great move, sorted my Myki now I'm off Jobseeker, and updated my details on the electoral roll while I'm at it. Mechanic called before I even had time to sit down for a coffee so I've just got off the train after listening to a bunch of goss about someone's workplace merger.
