It's a little sad that we need to actually say this, but:

Don't be an asshole or you will be permanently banned.

Respectful debate is totally OK, criticizing a product is fine, but being verbally abusive will not be tolerated.

Focus on discussing the idea, not attacking the person.

coal rolling happens when a driver of a diesel truck floods the engine with more fuel than it can efficiently process, emitting a thick black plume of exhaust across the road

14th paragraph

[–] makingStuffForFun@lemmy.ml 13 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Thank you.

How do people do it? Drive along, turn off engine whilst rolling. Pump foot. Turn on engine?

[–] GBU_28@lemm.ee 35 points 4 months ago (2 children)

There are kits, with switches that dump extra fuel in.

Humanity was a mistake.

[–] VieuxQueb@lemmy.ca 13 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I have seen a kit on amazon that plug into the exaust tip and just pump a mist of diesel right in the hot tip. Crazy shit people will do just to piss off others.

Just like those fucking light bars that shine a thousand Suns in your face while driving at night. It's illegal but they turn it on only to piss off people when there is no cop around.

Straight to jail, life sentence

[–] YeetPics@mander.xyz 2 points 4 months ago

~~Humanity~~ Florida was a mistake.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 17 points 4 months ago

Depends on the engine. On an old cummins theres a screw you can just turn up to eleven. On more modern stuff you need a specific computer tuner, which the EPA made very hard to get a few years ago.

[–] ThatWeirdGuy1001@lemmy.world 34 points 4 months ago (1 children)

And it's not enforced.

Cops will just watch it happen right in front of them and do nothing.

Meanwhile I'm getting pulled over for my broken exhaust on my shitty little 2000 Malibu.

This is why you file a report yourself with video to local and state authorities. In many states this is illegal and they do take action on reports.

How many potatoes/bananas does it take to clog a dirty vertical exhaust? Should we use pineapples instead?

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 11 points 4 months ago (2 children)

I’ve seen exhausts big enough that a pineapple wouldn’t plug.

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 11 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Whole durian fruit it is then. Got it.

[–] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Depending on your location, a watermelon might be cheaper.

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm in the south, this is the way.

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Yeah people underestimate the smell of a rotting watermelon. It's pretty close to durian. Had a friend put one in their trunk and forget about it for a couple weeks, until like a week after it started to smell.

How about a 750ml bottle? Weighted with some sort of liquid, of course, so it goes all the way down. They're pretty high up too, so you'll probably have to lob it in. You'll with a handle of some sort, maybe made of fabric, so you can get a nice lob throw and land it right in the stack.

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 1 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Those are pointed down, you know.

[–] ashok36@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Do you often hear whooshing sounds?

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

So you’re saying to jam it in hard enough to secure. - “for safety”?

[–] acockworkorange@mander.xyz 3 points 4 months ago

Until the truck begs for more.

Hydraulic cement.

2 minute setting time.

Waterproof.

Expands to fill cracks.

[–] Riven@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Not condoning this but sugar in the gas tank or squirt brake fluid on the paint of the car, it'll eat through it.

[–] NegativeInf@lemmy.world 2 points 4 months ago

Ooh! One of my favorites is slapping bologna on the car. Leave it and it will eat through perfect circles. Polka dot compensation truck. It's gotta stay for a few days tho.

[–] vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.works 9 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I wonder what is pushing this back up to the list of shit these idiots are doing. I've seen it happen twice in as many days around the town I live in.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Take pics and report it: It's illegal.

[–] vulgarcynic@sh.itjust.works 13 points 4 months ago

Unfortunately where I live it's a some of those that work forces situation. It's far too red for anyone to do anything other than put me on watch for dissent.

[–] SoJB@lemmy.ml 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Who’s gonna do something about it, the cops?

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahhahaha

The cop is the one driving these and coal rolling you in the first place 😂

Anyway on an unrelated note, vehicle caltrops are incredibly easy to manufacture in any machine shop and, surprisingly, can be easily bought at many online vendors.

Definitely do NOT place them under the tires of parked lifted mega trucks with $20k of custom trim and exhaust. That would NOT be cool.

[–] _haha_oh_wow_@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago

Yes, the cops. This is illegal in multiple states. You can also report them to your state's department of motor vehicles.

The Supreme Court just ruled 6-3 that it’s a legitimate form of political speech

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

The Supreme Court just rolled coal at me

[–] smokin_shinobi@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago (2 children)

Does anyone know if lighting them on fire is less pollution in the long run?

[–] Garbanzo@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago

Yeah, but only if 'them' includes the truck and the owner.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

Only one way to find out.
