Nobody is asking the real question. Why is there a magnet in the cat's collar? Depending on how strong it is, it may even be dangerous.

Some cat flaps only open if a magnet is nearby, to stop strays coming into your house.

I would have never thought about this.

I found a spoon buried in the backyard last week. Not the most unusual thing I've found buried back there.

What is the most unusual thing you've found buried in there?

As their lawyer, we are refraining from disclosing further details at this time.

I think shoes, or a phone. Sorry, no bodies. Feels like the previous homeowners used it as a dumping site with the amount of garbage, grocery bags in particular, I've found.

Other items I've dug up: toys, balls, patio umbrella, bricks, cinder blocks, milk jugs, paint cans, glass bottles, a recycling bin, fake potted plants.

Probably more that I can't remember. Other than plastic bags that I continue to find the rest of that stuff I found years ago when I bought the house.

I'm gonna bury a spoon today, for you

This kills the cat (it eats too much now that it has a spoon).

Don't let your cats go outside. It shortens their lifespan significantly. Cars, fights with other cats, stray dogs (my family lost 2 of their cats this way), and parasites can lower their lifespan by years.

It is also absolutely terrible for local ecosystem. House cats are responsible for 2.4 billion bird deaths in America alone every year. It is causing a decline in song birds. Keep your pets indoors.

Never seen this before, why does the cat have a magnet on his collar?

[–] Oha@lemmy.ohaa.xyz 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

could be dangerous. collars on their own can kill a cat if they don't break away and the cat gets stuck on something.

[–] balls_expert@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Stick a spoon to the magnet and check if the cat can pull away from it

Then also make sure the magnet isn't stronger than the cat's weight

And boom you have an automatic metal grabbing cat that brings you riches

o lawd he nifflin

[–] cabbagee@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 year ago

I'm not saying it's harmful. Just wanted to know if there's a functional use for it.

[–] Ilovethebomb@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

It's for a cat flap, certain models only open if a magnet is nearby.

There is no spoon ... and the cat knows it!
