I'll be honest, I absolutely hated the new album. It's not what I wanted from Porter, but if he has new fans and he enjoys what he does more doing pop, more power to him.

I'll keep listening to Spitfire EP and Worlds.

Porter doesn't want to continue to make the same kinds of music over and over. He's talked about it a few times in recent interviews.

That's fair enough, I don't want to write the same software in the same programming language for the rest of my life!

I haven't had a chance to listen to the new album, but it's a bit sad to hear it went in a poppier direction.

Honestly though, Worlds is a masterpiece that was created as pushback against the EDM trends of the time when it was released. It's not necessarily unfair comparison, but it is a recipe for disappointment if that's what you're going to use as your baseline for all new music.

Worlds was very unique, yeah. It's definitely not a good benchmark for EDM.

I found Smile to be too lyrics-focused and the tracks didn't particularly stand out to me, it was a bit generic-sounding.

Well I really loved Worlds too. It dropped just after I got to know his music so I was super excited to be around at the time. The shelter era was also great but after he went to pursue the virtual self project I kind of lost interest and didn't keep up with new music form Porter.

To me Smile is also a serious change of pace from before but I've since started listening to hyperpop so part of the album is really hitting that spot for me :)

Don't let me keep you from enjoying Smile! I think I'm just more on the hardcore end of EDM, and Worlds is probably on the mellower end of what I would enjoy.

I've recently gotten into speedcore if that gives you any idea ;)

Ah yes speeecore, the pinnacle of osu mapping

Im going to guess you started with camellia so you should check out kobaryo, t pazolite, yooh

And on that note, you should check out breakcore (tangentially related) and j hardcore (most speedcore artists probably started with hardcore)

Actually started out with m1dy and Kobaryo hahah, breakcore is good too, so is extratone when done well!

Happy hardcore (like Matduke) and doomcore like Xaero is also in my playlist.

Hardcore tano C is a big jcore group thats been around since at least 2015 (at least thats when I started to listened to them)

I'd wager 80% of the group also does speedcore

On another note i havent heard the name matduke since 2013 monstercat LOL

That's a person wearing a kigurumi mask in the album art! I want to get one of those masks but they're really expensive.
