I always thought some men's irrational fear of menstrual products to be weird. It's really bizarre that this is such a big deal for the trumpies.

It's a tampon, not a snake. It's not going to bite you.

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 25 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It is weird but some - especially those in very fundamentalist religious sects - genuinely believe it makes a woman unclean and she should have to keep away from society and be shunned every month.

Yes it’s fucking stupid, but the Bible has some really weird rules.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

These people don't follow the Bible. The Bible is so ass backwards that it contradicts itself. There's only one mention in the Bible about abortion, and it's a "how to". The Bible mentions gays one time but mentions shellfish like 46 times. It's disjointed af.

[–] PrincessLeiasCat@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 months ago

I don’t disagree, I’m merely stating that some interpret it differently.

[–] Fisk400@feddit.nu 19 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Some men just hate that women have bodily functions but in this case its because they believe that tampons have sexual undertones because it involves insertion. For a long time in England, only married women were allowed to buy them and I can only assume that there were similar rules in The US.

[–] ccunning@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago (19 children)

As prudish as America is, I’ve never heard that before. Not saying it’s not the case though.

As long as we're talking about hetereosexual "weirdness", can we discuss the desire to gag and be disgusted on seeing another man naked? It's not fucking gross. It's not fucking anything. Seeing another man's member is like seeing their arm: if they're particularly jacked, you're a little impressed, maybe envious, and otherwise "oh look, a body part". This whole fabricated need to act disgusted out of what I can only assume is fear that your lack of reaction could be misunderstood as interest is fucking weird.

[–] morphballganon@lemmynsfw.com 0 points 2 months ago (1 children)

How I feel about seeing another person naked has less to do with their gender and more to do with their personal maintenance. Take Arnold at the beginning of T2 for example. Guy was well-groomed and built. There was nothing ick about that.

On the other hand, take a person who doesn't take care of themselves, and have them be naked where being naked isn't appropriate, and your attention is drawn to the ways in which they don't take care of themselves.

My neighbor, a woman, once bent over in a dress with no underwear on, to get something out of a car. I didn't see, but my wife did, and she got the ick. Whether you think she got the ick due to the inappropriateness of the scenario, or the fact that my neighbor does not take care of herself, it's clearly not just a guy thing.

[–] Glide@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Agreed, but that is far removed from the "penis' are gross and make me feel sick" attitude many "straight" men take.

My point is more that seeing someone's gross, regularly unwashed genetalia is on par with seeing the toothless, decaying smile of someone who hadn't brushed their teeth in years. It's dusgusting, but it's not about sexual preference.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yet they'll watch porn with BBC in it but that's "not gay".

[–] 5ibelius9insterberg@feddit.org 3 points 2 months ago

Uh uh uh ! snaps fingers Idea to troll those weird man: Just tape (unused) tampons to the underside of your toilet seat.

[–] Monument@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 months ago

It may not be a snake, but it might come back to bite you.

[–] kibiz0r@midwest.social 40 points 2 months ago

They’re really gonna take the bait, huh?

Not only is “No u” a bad retort in any situation, but following up with plans about legal placement of tampons and mandatory genital inspections is not gonna convince anyone you’re the reasonable one.

Maybe by 2028, they’ll realize this is a doomed strategy and keep their hate to themselves. They’ll still be bigots, but the least they could do is be bigots in private.

[–] TipRing@lemmy.world 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Conservatives typically call LGBT people much worse things than "weird".

[–] cyborganism@lemmy.ca 39 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah but calling conservatives Nazis or fascists doesn't hurt them because that's what they are and they're proud of it.

Calling them weird really gets under their skin somehow.

[–] vividspecter@lemm.ee 16 points 2 months ago

Calling them weird really gets under their skin somehow.

It's because it makes them seem pathetic and not scary. They get off from being seen as dangerous, but really can't handle being made fun of as it reveals them for what they truly are.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 28 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Its funny cuz queer was the original word for weird. So in a way, they're queer but not proud

[–] adespoton@lemmy.ca 19 points 2 months ago

Hmm… those who support queer vs those who support weird.

TEXT PRIDE TO 70785

Why are ads and campaigns like this? Is there something I'd get that I couldn't get from a website, beside "my phone number potentially leaked and used for robocalls"?

[–] AltheaHunter@lemmy.blahaj.zone 23 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They're like that because they want your phone number for robocalls.

[–] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I thought Pride was mainly by and for people of the generation that would rather disable the "call" function of their phones entirely, and "give us your phone number and we'll tell you who we are" is very much the opposite of how they want organizations to interact with them.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 months ago

It is for them, but it's run by boomers as is everything

[–] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago

That's a fight I'm willing to take.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 15 points 2 months ago (2 children)

Could my life please stop being a political issue‽ I have shit going on in my life

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

I'm just trying to make rent, bro. My sexuality is secondary to that. "Yeah but that's the part we're concerned about!" .... But why?

[–] ToastedPlanet@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Standing up for the rights of all people should be a winning issue for Democrats. Trans people should not be an exception to that.

I think in the past Democrats were to reluctant to fight on social issues, such as abortion. And I think the inability to push back on Republicans on these social issues cost Democrats elections. Democrats are finally fighting for a women's right to an abortion in a bold way and stating loudly that abortion is women's health care.

I'm weird. Being weird is good. Calling fascists weird is such an effective strategy because it shatters their fragile egos. They are unable to see themselves as anything other than their fictional concept of 'normal'. So the attack will not work in reverse, as it's not going to bother anyone besides the fascists. As long Democrats continue to fight for everyone's rights they will dominate Republicans on social issues in polling and elections. edit: typo

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

"I'm not like them!" Yeah ya are, you're weird af. Weirder even. I may be into some weird stuff, but I don't try to dictate what a child does with their parts. That's REALLY fuckin weird.

[–] Dkarma@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago

Dems are crazy hair fun clothes weird. Gop is "marry kids" weird.

[–] LainTrain@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 2 months ago

If I ever hear any conservative viewpoints IRL. I always just say "oh man that's so funny is that some kind of internet thing?" But I might switch it up to "huh, weird... Well anyway..." to stay in touch with the younger generations

[–] Mediocre_Bard@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago

I thought that thumbnail said "ANAL" at first.

“He’s very heavy into transgender,” Donald Trump said on Fox and Friends last week. “Anything transgender he thinks is great.”

I think trans people are great too.

“He signed a bill – he wants tampons in boys’ bathrooms,” Trump said on Wednesday in Raleigh. “I don’t think so.” One day later, in New Jersey, Trump returned to the theme: “He wants tampons in boys’ bathrooms. It’s terrible.”

Have you considered that maybe shoving a tampon up your ass would mean you didn't need to wear an adult-diaper?
