Hey gang. So I hate to be the fun police, but we're removing the exception to the Show Off Saturday rule.
Previously, we would allow collection posts on any day of the week, provided that a one paragraph review was provided for each device shown. In practice, this hasn't led to the quality of reviews that we were hoping for. In general, the one paragraph descriptions submitted read more like personal diaries, rather than actual, objective reviews.
It was probably a bit much to hold everyone to the high standard that u/gcass94 set with their initial post that prompted this exception to begin with. What we've seen since within collection posts posted outside of Saturdays is folks gushing about how their RG35XX reminds them of their DMG Game Boy, or that their AYN Odin 2 was their seventh handheld acquired after selling their collection of bits and bobs. While entertaining, those personal histories fall a bit short of what we were hoping for when we created the exception. Therefore, we're going back to collection posts only on Saturdays now.
Of course, we welcome personal anecdotes and reviews alike, any day of the week! We feel that both of those written accounts can suffice on their own, without an accompanying picture of your collection. Or with an embedded picture in the text write-up, much like in the linked post. In either case, the written word should be the focus of the post - not the collection itself.
As a reminder, these are the details for the Show Off Saturday rule:
- Any post containing a picture or video with five or more handhelds is considered a Collection post.
- Use the "Collection" flair.
- List the names of all of the devices in your photo. Preferably use the image caption, or edit your photo itself to add text.
- Post only between Saturday 12:01am UTC - Sunday 4:00am UTC.
