/c/TenFoward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

Why is she wearing the Combadge on the right side of her chest?!

From s3e1 "Basics part 2" where Seska had control of the ship. She, and presumably the costume department, thought it looked better on her right with her holding the baby on her left.

You can see the Doctor's on the correct side.

Okay, compared to the Bajoran we had prior to VOY, Seska’s makeup looked super fake. I’m starting to feel like maybe that was on purpose. Maybe it wasn’t but it feels like it was.

[–] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I think that happened because it would feel really odd to see someone holding a baby to the right. Many people have held babies and for some reason it is almost instinctual to hold them with the head to the left side. It's kinda weird in a way, but if you pick up a baby odds are you're going to try to hold it that way and that spreads across all humanity.

I always held my son as a baby with his head on my right side… because I’m left-handed.

[–] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, that tracks. A max estimate of 10% of people are left handed. So, for most it'd feel weird.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The constant is that you’re inclined to put the baby’s head on your opposing arm so your dominate hand is free, whichever side that is.

Reserve the word weird for things other than what you personally aren’t used to.

[–] jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yep. Sorry if that wound up being offensive. I do apologize.

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

shrug

I don’t think your comment was that bad. I’m just noticing how in recent years I’ve come across many instances where being left handed is seen as strange or disappointing or even tied to a disorder.

It feels like social regression when one of the few minority groups that was socially acceptable when I grew up is now getting regarded as less acceptable for some reason.

[–] CeruleanRuin@lemmings.world 7 points 2 months ago

I think that's just because most people are right-handed, so they hold the baby with their left to free up their good hand.
