My local Publix and every other one I've ever been to has always had a water button attached to the Sprite or 7-Up dispenser. But recently, my local Publix removed it. Now, whenever I go shopping, I can't go in get a cup and fill it with water to have a drink while I shop anymore. It has always been completely free to just get a cup and fill it with water, they even told me I could do that and that's how I found out about it years ago. Seems like they've changed their minds now

Water? You mean that stuff that goes in toilets?

[–] sasquash@sopuli.xyz 27 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Water? I don't drink water. Fish fuck in it.

[–] desktop_user@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

monster is clearly superior in every way, it gives you the jutters, tastes toxicly sweet, is bubbly, and most importantly isn't flat.

[–] snooggums@midwest.social 7 points 2 months ago

It has what plants crave!

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 26 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Next you're going to tell me it has what plants crave.

[–] n3cr0@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Don't be foolish! Of course, we have Gatorade for that.

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

What the heck’s this Gatorade. We got Brawndo. It’s got electrolytes

[–] Samsonreturns@lemmy.world 68 points 2 months ago (2 children)

I would be willing to bet that the water dispenser arm has snapped off. And I know from experience, coke takes FOREVER to send a tech out to fix their machines.

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 13 points 2 months ago

Came to say the exact same thing!

Stupid plastic parts.

[–] bonn2@lemm.ee 9 points 2 months ago

Yeah, hey op try looking under where it was, there may still be enough of the arm left to still use it anyways.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 49 points 2 months ago (1 children)

That sucks. As a workaround, a cup of ice is just a cup of water waiting to happen.

[–] Tujio@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

My friend asked me if I wanted a frozen banana. I said 'No. But I want a regular banana later. So yes.'

Publix needs more money to support their anti-democratic values and candidates. And no, its not just the Publix heiress who helped support January 6th. https://www.americandemocracyscorecard.org/publix-super-markets/#full-report

[–] warbond@lemmy.world 12 points 2 months ago

Fuckin.... Goddamnit. Thanks for letting me know.

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org -5 points 2 months ago

its not just the Publix heiress who helped support January 6th

Yes, let's not forge the FBI and GOP🫡

[–] tee900@lemmy.world 20 points 2 months ago (1 children)

They removed the only drink that you can taste the mold in.

[–] TheMightyCanuck@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

This. Those machines are nearly impossible to properly sanitize when you're NOT underpaid and overworked...

Can't imagine when they are

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Next you think you deserve access to the free sun!

These peasants really getting greedy

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Let them drink Coke!

[–] finley@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

because, if it's in florida, the water was unfiltered and tastes like literal shit which is why nobody wanted it

[–] electric@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I've never seen a Publix with a drink dispenser. Where are these usually?

[–] C0balt_Blu@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Usually at the Deli! think there is a combo for a pub sub, drink and chips if I'm not mistaken

[–] electric@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh good point, never been to the delis myself. I didn't realize they had a mini food court, thought it was just a place to buy meats or their sandwiches.

[–] sneaky@r.nf 1 points 2 months ago

Great sandwiches! Just don't get the boars head meat anymore

[–] eezeebee@lemmy.ca 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I had look up what a Publix is. Never heard of a grocery stord providing refreshments to shoppers. Is the pop free?

[–] warbond@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Nah, it's a lunch/deli situation, where you can order a sandwich or get a salad, so they also have soda fountains like this.

[–] Steve@startrek.website 3 points 2 months ago

Mine has been broken, if you wiggle it just right it would dispense water. Maybe it’s just broken off?

Btw, naples FL? Identical setup if not

[–] Eyeuhnluuung@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

It’s a good thing you have a free water dispenser at your house and reusable water bottles are a thing.

[–] TheMightyCanuck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

'free water dispenser at your house'

You still get a water bill my dude, cheap isn't free... Also OP is upset at the loss of convenience, not access.

[–] Eyeuhnluuung@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago

Yeah, I regret adding the “free” part because I didn’t intend my comment to be about cost. But in terms of convenience, is it really so much more inconvenient to bring a reusable water bottle with you to the store? Why add to a landfill by getting a disposable cup every time you go?

Since we’re on the topic of cost though, do you know how much 16oz of water from your tap at home costs on average? 3 one hundredths of a cent. Thats about a penny and a half a year if you go to the grocery store once a week.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

I can’t go in get a cup and fill it with water to have a drink while I shop anymore.

You can if you're ballsy enough.

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

what is the clear thing in the center?

[–] Tower@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago (1 children)
[–] spaghetti_hitchens@fedia.io 5 points 2 months ago

It's technically a water dispenser

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (2 children)

You have to wonder what idiot thought this was a good idea. It just means people will grab a soda and not pay for it.

[–] Donjuanme@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

Or it broke?

[–] sunzu2@thebrainbin.org 1 points 2 months ago

That's a crime bro!!!!!

Call the police!
