Maybe saying you’re quitting meta is “virtue signalling” but actually quitting is virtuous.

[–] joenforcer@midwest.social 38 points 14 hours ago

Ah yes, the feed starting with an ad, followed by a reels module alternating between soft porn and dogs, followed by bots and more ads, maybe interspersed with a couple of posts by people whose names I recognize for good measure, are well worth my time. No need to virtue signal, I'm hooked!

[–] trslim@pawb.social 56 points 16 hours ago

Why, yes, Im signaling that I have virtues, which is why I am not on your site Zuckerboi.

[–] circuitfarmer@lemmy.sdf.org 49 points 15 hours ago

Kind of like wearing a red MAGA hat.

[–] miss_demeanour@lemmy.dbzer0.com 176 points 18 hours ago (3 children)

Banning gender-neutral bathrooms and spinning to anti-woke isn't virtue signalling...

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 78 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

It’s vice signaling. There’s nothing virtuous about Meta or Zuckerberg. Let’s not forget his first try was a hot or not clone with pictures of women he used without consent.

And that new perm he got definitely isn’t virtuous.

He looks like a token butch lesbian from a cheap horror movie

Why did they cover the $900k watch in the image?

[–] noxypaws@pawb.social 118 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Using the phrase "virtue signaling" is virtue signaling

[–] Whateley@lemm.ee 33 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, his wife has definitely served him divorce papers.

One hopes so. For her own sake if nothing else.

[–] ryper@lemmy.ca 110 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

What should we call blatant pandering to Trump and his ilk? MAGA signaling?

No, shit for brains, giving up your job is an actual commitment. Virtue signaling is a token gesture that costs you nothing - like throwing a million dollars at an inauguration party when you're worth billions.

[–] eronth@lemmy.world 40 points 16 hours ago

Bruh they're taking action. It's virtue actioning. Unless you're trying to tell them they need to do something more dramatic?

The sad reality is that most people, like an overwhelming majority, won’t leave. Most don’t even have a clue this is happening in the first place, those that do, love their family and friends more than they hate Mark.

And where are they going to go? I heard Cory doctorow liken it to Anatevka (the town in Ukraine from fiddler on the roof) the people were sad they were leaving because they knew it would never be the same again and they might not see each other again. They didn’t like getting beat by Cossacks and it was a shitty place to be but they didn’t want to leave their people.

Dumping a platform that has your friends and family is a hard thing to do especially if it’s the only meaningful way you can connect with them otherwise. Especially if you know some won’t leave and some aren’t going to go to the same place you are.

[–] dharmacurious@slrpnk.net 11 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

On top of that, so many places no longer have websites, they have Facebook pages. Wanna see the menu to your favorite restaurant? Fucking Facebook. Want to know the hours of operation of that computer repair place? Fucking Facebook. Want to know if the shop you're going to carries your brand of something? Believe it or not, fucking Facebook. It's so integrated into our culture at this point. No private entity should ever have been allowed to amass that much power.

[–] xavier666@lemm.ee 8 points 11 hours ago

Wanna see the menu to your favorite restaurant?

I have used Google maps and it has worked well so far. But it's just the lesser of the two evils.

[–] Bogasse@lemmy.ml 4 points 11 hours ago

I wanted to leave a while ago but their shitty development practices got me locked out of my account due to a bug before I could.

[–] Sanctus@lemmy.world 40 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Get fuck't, Zuck. I'm attempting to convince my entire family to go to Friendica.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 6 points 16 hours ago

I will mention the platform and hopefully plant a seed!

[–] normalexit@lemmy.world 20 points 16 hours ago

virtue - behavior showing high moral standards.

Wouldn't want to signal that.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago

I was and I did. What of it, Markie you salty bitch.

[–] just_another_person@lemmy.world 27 points 17 hours ago

Okay, so what's wrong with that, dipshit? The populace fucking hates your stupid policies because it harms, and sticking in solidarity with those it harms is VIRTUE SIGNALING? That's a bad thing?

Go poorly surf and fight MMA you dumb, dickhead. People hate you and you deserve it.

You Virtue Signal

I Virtue Signal

We Are Not The Same

[–] unmagical@lemmy.ml 26 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I virtue signaled over a decade ago.

[–] stealth_cookies@lemmy.ca 11 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

If treating people with respect and standing up for the greater good of an inclusive society that doesn't villainize people who aren't harming others is virtue signalling then I wear the title proudly.

[–] DigitalNirvana@lemm.ee 22 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

I’ve been virtue signaling for years now. I can’ wait till Meta corp is a tiny greasy stain in the historical record. I’m had two dear friends ask me about the fediverse since Sunday.

[–] veeesix@lemmy.ca 25 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Geeze this guy gets a hobby and buys new clothes, and suddenly it’s hardcore this, hardcore that.

[–] DrSleepless@lemmy.world 12 points 17 hours ago

And everybody knows he stole Facebook from Spider-Man

[–] Vanth@reddthat.com 7 points 14 hours ago

Boycott - to abstain from or act together in abstaining from using, buying, dealing with, or participating in as an expression of protest or disfavor or as a means of coercion.

Why, yes. I think he's right. Dadgum, he's just so smart.

[–] Sunshine@lemmy.ca 9 points 16 hours ago

Zuckerberg is about make people want to quit even more now.

[–] index@sh.itjust.works 0 points 7 hours ago

How long till you idiots realize that you are doing him a favor upvoting his news?

[–] stormio@lemmy.ca 8 points 15 hours ago

What if I never used Meta in the first place? What does that make me? Am I a virtue signaller too?

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 5 points 14 hours ago

Aw, is little baby Zuck upset that he's going to lose money somehow?

[–] tate@lemmy.sdf.org 16 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah! Let's go!! Signal to me baby!

I just left because the platform is full of spam, narcissists and crazy family members that I don’t need in my life. It’s not fun anymore. Hasn’t been for a decade.

[–] SlopppyEngineer@lemmy.world 8 points 14 hours ago

I just wanted simple updates from the people i follow in a chronological order. But no, it had to be by the algorithm, all in seemingly random order, and the feed full of slop I didn't ask for being force fed like I'm a turkey being prepared for the holidays, That's why I left.

[–] _wizard@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago

Wish I could. Have to admin a bunch of brands on it though.

[–] 7fb2adfb45bafcc01c80@lemmy.world 12 points 18 hours ago

So he's saying people wouldn't sacrifice much if they were to leave Meta-backed services?

[–] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 11 points 18 hours ago

this headline gave me a much needed chuckle, what a world.

[–] don@lemm.ee 10 points 18 hours ago

There were plenty of reasons for my deleting fb over a decade ago, and this horsefuckery is just one more fuckery to add to the list of fb fuckeries (damn, they are many!).

[–] Tylerdurdon@lemmy.world 7 points 17 hours ago (2 children)

I have no idea what that means, but okay. I quit about a decade ago and have since tried a couple times to "get back into it" so I could keep up better with family/friends, but was unable to muster the desire after a day or 2 and would end up forgetting. Doesn't really feel like I'm missing much overall.

Mark Zuckerberg’s opinions on ethics and morality are very important to me.

(I won a bet with myself. I managed to type that whole sentence without bursting into laughter.)

[–] teletext@reddthat.com 6 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

Actually, I'm okay with that. I signaled my virtue, and I hope that you will, too.
