Summary

IRS worker Robert McCabe, a Trump voter, expressed shock after being among 7,000 laid off by DOGE, an initiative under the Trump administration led by Elon Musk.

McCabe stated DOGE is acting like a “wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason.”

The layoffs, targeting probationary employees with less than a year of service, affect hundreds at the IRS and are part of a broader effort to shrink the federal workforce.

The cuts raise concerns about impacts on tax collection during a critical season.

I guess this is the only way to break the spell on these people, one at a time?

Have them lose their job and be miserable thanks to Republican policies?

Also: I have just no idea how you could be working for the government and voting Republican. The Republicans have been for saying, for years, that they want to destroy government.

[–] ThomasCrappersGhost@feddit.uk 4 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Trouble is they will only realise when they are effected.

Equally, I am confused by Brits that work for the NHS and vote Conservative.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 3 minutes ago)

Same propaganda works everywhere.

The middle class is deteriorating, pay * isn't increasing in sync with inflation, less kids, less money in taxes.

The rich aren't rich in a vacuum, as the * Rich get richer the rest get poorer. It's pretty easy to target them to hate down one social level.

As far as NHS, well if you're not overly sick you're paying too much and most people aren't overly sick. People who are struggling really get behind the "fuck you I got mine" train when instead they could be on the help me too train.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 hour ago

Rest of the trump voters: not my life, don't care!

[–] bad_alloc@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 hour ago

Unfortunately some people have less empathy than others. They learn mostly via experiences where they are hurt themselves.

[–] Kalysta@lemm.ee 11 points 3 hours ago

FAFO.

I have zero sympathy for this chucklefuck. I voted to save democracy. I just hope they hurt more than I do for their shit choice.

[–] Rekorse@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 hour ago

Does anyone know why a federal worker would vote to have their own job removed? If they thought they would be safe, where's the logic there? Did trump say he was cool with IRS workers at some point?

I also dont quote understand someone who believes in minimizing the federal government, then working for the federal government.

As MAGA likes to say... Cry harder!

[–] itspatato@lemm.ee 18 points 8 hours ago

Reap what you sow- MAGA

[–] DarkSurferZA@lemmy.world 53 points 16 hours ago

Wait, so when it was destroying other people's lives, that was fine, but now that it's your life, you wanna be a bitch?

Let me help you here dear trump voter... Fuck you, you deserve it.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 38 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

My face! The leopards! The goggles! They do nothing!

[–] __nobodynowhere@sh.itjust.works 43 points 21 hours ago

You were only supposed to destroy other people's lives!

[–] Jericho_One@lemmy.world 32 points 21 hours ago

"I didn't think the leopards were going to eat MY face" - says the person that voted for the Leopards Eating Faces party

[–] LandedGentry@lemmy.zip 110 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (5 children)

Imagine working with the IRS, voting with the party that has said for years they want to defund the IRS, and then being surprised when that party attacks the IRS. I don’t fucking understand these people at all. They truly live a life devoid of reality. They are incapable of considering real world consequences.

Truly to be a conservative is to lack imagination.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Someone I know would often spar with his neighbor over politics. Neighbor has been working for the USPS for most of his life. Neighbor was full-on fucking MAGA. I'd like to get an update on that guy, but the person I know moved and lost contact w/ the qon neighbor.

But I wonder if his butt puckered up just a little bit when he learned this:

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 13 points 8 hours ago

They believe they are special. My job is important so it wont get cut. My abortion was just because it could have caused health problems for me. I deserved unemployment/medicaid because i paid into it.

It is not imagination but empathy they lack until it effects their lives.

[–] PlantDadManGuy@lemmy.world 6 points 8 hours ago

And any type of reason, critical thinking, compassion, empathy, or most other basic human emotions.

[–] dan1101@lemm.ee 28 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Just like anyone in a union that voted for Trump, or any woman. I don't know what they expected.

[–] adm@lemm.ee 13 points 18 hours ago (2 children)

In the union we were always taught to vote with your wallet. Every meeting during elections I heard it. Still, every other guy would be on about voting for Trump. Can't fix stupid.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 8 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

And stupid people vote Republican, and Republicans destroy education to make more stupid people. It's a cruel feedback loop.

[–] ThomasCrappersGhost@feddit.uk 1 points 2 hours ago

Conservative/capitalist policies don’t even really benefit the rich.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 24 points 1 day ago (9 children)

Imagination, empathy, intelligence, a soul, basic communication skills, and any level of emotional maturity.

McCabe stated DOGE is acting like a “wrecking ball and destroying people’s lives for no reason.”

Reading between the lines, ol' Bob here seems to think that only MAGA are people. Destroying the libs' lives is perfectly fine.

[–] toomanypancakes@lemmy.world 101 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That's what they all think. They're violent, hateful, and disgusting people. I'm wondering how long before Nazi hat wearing motherfuckers start getting attacked in public as a matter of self defense.

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/trump-voter-hes-not-hurting-the-people-he-needs-be-hurting-msna1181316

A few miles away, another prison employee, Crystal Minton, accompanied her fiancé to a friend's house to help clear the remnants of a metal roof mangled by the hurricane. Ms. Minton, a 38-year-old secretary, said she had obtained permission from the warden to put off her Mississippi duty until early February because she is a single mother caring for disabled parents. Her fiancé plans to take vacation days to look after Ms. Minton's 7-year-old twins once she has to go to work. The shutdown on top of the hurricane has caused Ms. Minton to rethink a lot of things."I voted for him, and he's the one who's doing this," she said of Mr. Trump. "I thought he was going to do good things. He's not hurting the people he needs to be hurting."

Crystal Minton, who inadvertently became the ideological core of the MAGA movement. She said the quiet part out loud.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I like what the left wants is universal healthcare, a social safety net, housing for everyone, just stuff where we’d love it if everybody had access to it. The only people who need to be “hurt” are the straight-up actual criminals who seem to otherwise dodge every consequence and those people are extremely rich assholes who have a lot of power and use it all for pure evil and none of them are regular people.

But then the right comes along and it’s always “how can we bring the most cruel, crude punishment to this margainalized group of poor people?” and it’s just, like…fucking really?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

We were in Tennessee. During the motorcade, he spotted some ugly racial epithets scrawled on signs. Late that night in the hotel, when the local dignitaries had finished the last bottles of bourbon and branch water and departed, he started talking about those signs. "I'll tell you what's at the bottom of it," he said. "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you." -Bill Moyers quoting LBJ

I think a whole lot of it is racism, xenophobia, etc...even if government-as-a-weapon is an inexact thing, and those voting for qons know it, they still hope it will harm the out-group even more.

him also misunderstanding what the "wrecking ball" does?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Exactly. In what universe is a wrecking ball used to build something?

Same with chainsaws - some of the dipshits are still employing this myth that fElon and his Incel Clown Posse were going to be applying sound principles to improving efficiency in some kind of surgical fashion (instead of the smash-n-grab that it really is).

Meanwhile, fElon is literally swinging around a chainsaw for his slack-jawed yokel admirers. Even on metaphors, this is a huge failure. What kind of surgery is done with a FUCKING CHAINSAW?

Even the most dogmatic redcap adherents cannot make that make sense to each other.

No kidding you voted for the person that said he wanted to hurt people.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Yeah, but TBF, he thought it was going to be OTHER people that were getting hurt.

[–] sparky@lemmy.federate.cc 21 points 1 day ago

I didn’t think the Leopards would terminate my employment!

[–] Veedem@lemmy.world 31 points 1 day ago

The IRS, particularly, was spoken about as a clear target well before Election Day. The GOP make it clear they want to kill the revenue generating service because they’re actually terrible business people.

This guy is an idiot if he didn’t think he could be impacted, too.

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 30 points 1 day ago

Realization is not enough. If you voted for Trump you need to actively work to undo the damage you caused. This isn't a forgive and forget situation.

[–] HellsBelle@sh.itjust.works 46 points 1 day ago

When he said he was coming for everybody but you thought he'd make an exception for you.

In other news, Trump voter finally understands Homer's catchphrase "D'oh!" after 38 years.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Odds are extremely low that he learned anything. He probably thinks he was being informative about them not harming the right people.

[–] 9488fcea02a9@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

"Thanks, Obama!!! Crooked Hillary did this to me!"

-- trump voters after getting hurt by trump

Also: "Biden so old".
