Stupid people tend to be happier, yes it's true.

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 18 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Are they happier? Because they sure do complain a lot and get enraged over the simplest of issues.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 3 points 15 hours ago

get enraged over the simplest of issues.

Those issues are not even real most of the time and they're still raging mad. 😂

[–] Xatolos@reddthat.com 4 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

There has been lots of studies on this, and part of the issue is how do you get an honest rating of someone's happiness?

Here is an (10 year old) article from Time about and how studies show it's not an easy thing to judge.

Summary:

  • Self-Reported Happiness: Conservatives often report higher levels of happiness compared to liberals.
  • Research Studies: New studies indicate that conservatives may judge their lives and circumstances more positively than liberals.
  • Emotional Language: Analysis of transcripts from Congress shows that liberals use more positive words than conservatives.
  • Genuine Happiness: Studies on smiling intensity suggest liberals display more genuine happiness.
  • Impact on Behavior: Conservatives have a more confident style of self-assessment, which might contribute to their reported happiness.

The research suggests that the way conservatives and liberals perceive and report their happiness might be influenced by their self-assessment styles.

If conservatives were happy they wouldn't act the way they do.

[–] CrowAirbrush@lemmy.world 25 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I have a conservative friend who will start screaming like a little girl when a cyclist is doing nothing other than just using the bikelane that happens to come into an intersection with the road he's on.

Such happy people, amazing.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 20 hours ago

Tell him we hate him too

[–] Rooty@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Why are you friends with douchebags? I'm not trying to be snarky, I am genuinely interested

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

I have a douchebag friend. We have a lot in common. We're both like playing pinball. We both get migraines, and we both have chronic pain. Both have families that we love a lot. We're both older and retired. I genuinely like him.

He posts a lot of shit on Facebook "owning" liberals. I don't think it suits him, but I think he's caught up in the moment, and I think his pain and migraines get to him a bit.

I believe he's too good a man to stay on this track, and I'm going to be there when he realizes it. And I'll give him a hug and tell him I understand.

My sister has a childhood best friend that she had been through everything with, including him coming out as gay, and in her 50s her friend started supporting Trump. Again, I don't think it suits him, he's a sweet guy, but she just quit a relationship of 40 years because of that.

We gotta look inside people. They have s lot of reasons for what they do.

[–] CrowAirbrush@lemmy.world 2 points 22 hours ago

He's a good guy to me, actually a decent friend.

Willing to help whenever etc, never met someone like him. We just have very different opinions and a different response to what bothers us haha

[–] freeman@sh.itjust.works 8 points 22 hours ago

"Fuck you, got mine " exemplified .

[–] RavenFellBlade@startrek.website 6 points 21 hours ago

Love Steve. Been following him for years.

[–] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

More like blissfully ignorant. My experience with conservatives is that they like to sweep problems under the rug and pretend everything to be fine.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

I realized it's very much this when I asked my mother (born in 1961) if she had never taken a civics class, and she answered no. She actually believed(s?) the president creates laws. I don't know what she thought congress was.

[–] iAvicenna@lemmy.world 49 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

ahh yes family values like bailing Andrew Tate out.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 22 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not to mention worshipping a thrice-married sexual predator

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 1 points 15 hours ago

What, you're going to attack him just because a judge had to clarify in court that he's a rapist? Or because he was impeached for illegally using campaign finances to pay off a porn star he had sex with while his wife was at home with his newborn? Sheesh, I guess no one measures up to your impossible standards!

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Andrew Tate and his brother have probably, uh, you know...

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Raped, incest, murder? At this point I wouldn't be surprised at any of it.

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Sorry, they've probably fooled around with each other.

Family values.

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 19 points 1 day ago

Privilege. Especially white privilege. It's easier to be happy when you're benefiting from the invisible suffering of others.

[–] Maiq@lemy.lol 101 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've noticed that conservatives cant feel empathy. They only feel sympathy. This is why they don't understand any injustice until if effects them personally. This is the root psychological reasoning behind the leopards eating faces memes.

[–] Melatonin@lemmy.dbzer0.com 60 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The richest man in the world, who has only ONCE paid anything approaching a 20% tax rate and crowed like he was a PHILANTHROPIST when he did, is removing all social programs that are a safety net for the poorest and most desperate among us.

Empathy? Sympathy? They are vampires.

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 15 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I prefer to call them Ghouls.

Stop censoring these people's names and faces. They said it. They said it out loud and proud, in front of god and everyone. Why are we afraid to show them?!

He does stand up. He's pretty funny. I like when he heckles back at hecklers.

The funny part is that he’s known as a heckle comedian but has publicly stated that he hates hecklers. He’s only known as a heckle comedian because he has zero qualms about tearing them down as soon as they try. His comebacks are usually pretty brutal because he just wants to end the heckling and keep his set moving.

[–] leraje@lemmy.blahaj.zone 35 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Well, they do say ignorance is bliss.

[–] Escew@lemm.ee 7 points 2 days ago

They must be euphoric.

Ignorance is bliss, and to persist with conservatism requires embracing an ever expanding level of wilful ignorance.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 54 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"We're happier than libruls"

Must be the whole "Ignorance is bliss" as well

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm pretty sure that they are "happier" is not a factual statement.

[–] laurelraven@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 days ago

Was going to say, most that I know seem pretty miserable and looking for someone to blame or hate

Conservatives are racist nazis that have the IQ of an inbred redneck

[–] Machinist@lemmy.world 4 points 17 hours ago

I'm a redneck. Not inbred more than normal, as far as I know. I think I'm purty smart sometimes. Since you and I are 50th cousins, at worst, you've got some redneck in you.

Don't be like the fascists. Don't get lazy in your thinking. Our antagonists are human, some are very intelligent.

To defeat their ideology, we must view them accurately. Otherwise, how will we anticipate what they will do?

Lack of empathy and utterly selfish. It enables these trash humans to take others rights and believe the lie that doing it is a good thing.
