Hello,
- I'm not a mod of !buyeuropean@feddit.uk
- That Reddit post's objective was to onboard Redditors on Lemmy as a whole. The only time !buyeuropean@feddit.uk is mentioned is in links with Mbin and Piefed, the other examples use !europe@feddit.org
- Community consolidation is needed to avoid decision fatigue and discussion splintering.
Example from a few months ago: https://lemm.ee/post/46935805
There have been parallel communities existing without a clear winner for a very long time
- !android@lemmy.world and !android@lemdro.id
- !movies@lemm.ee and !movies@lemmy.world
- !firefox@fedia.io, !firefox@lemmy.world and !firefox@lemmy.ml
- !privacy@lemmy.ml, !privacyguides@lemmy.one, !privacy@lemmy.world, !privacy@programming.dev, !privacy@lemmy.dbzer0.com (there was even a recent meme about this one on !fedimemes@feddit.uk )
Communities need to be actively consolidated for people to converge on one community. Examples of closed communities
- !mapporn@lemmy.world in favour of !map_enthusiasts@sopuli.xyz
- !football@lemmy.world for !football@lemm.ee
- !television@lemmy.world for !showsandmovies@lemm.ee
This is not a case of !politics@hexbear.net vs !politics@lemmy.world. The two BuyEuropean communities look very similar, and the instances have similar moderation policies.
