For real things really changed in the last handful of years

[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 69 points 14 hours ago (2 children)

Funny to think back in the day WatchPeopleDie, jailbait and fiftyfifty was all the rage. Now Nintento charachters are banned

[–] OceanChild@lemm.ee 13 points 5 hours ago

Man.. I even remember being on watchpeopledie and that sub scarred me for life, to think we now get banned for upvoting sentences containing Luigi is insane.. Reddit has changed so much, can't even be mad at nazi's cause they're afraid it'll hurt Elon's little feelings..

Regime priorities have changed

I'll make the mandatory "Hi, I came here from Reddit" post that I'm guessing is mandatory on lemmy for threads dunking on the site? Might as well be my first post in the fediverse too to get that out of the way. Wish I had known about lemmy sooner tbh but better late than never.

Also if someone has the spare time for it, I'd love to get pointed towards whatever's commonly used for onboarding here. If there stuff I should be aware of and tools I should look into, what phone apps people use, that sorta stuff. I picked my host because I wanted something european but I'm now kinda eyeing the old layout option that world seems to have since I used to use the old layout on reddit too.

https://join-lemmy.org/ is a fantastic resource for onboarding. They even have a great list of apps with pictures of the interfaces for each: https://join-lemmy.org/apps

I'm on eternity its the fediverse successor to infinity.

[–] Calcifer@eviltoast.org 2 points 6 hours ago

I came because I discovered boost is now for Lemmy. Only wish Narwhal was still around.

[–] PM_Your_Nudes_Please@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

Voyager is basically a spiritual successor to Apollo. So if you miss that from the API purge, then give it a try.

[–] DaveyRocket@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

Oh shit, I was wondering why I thought the app was familiar. Good to know!

[–] theangryseal@lemmy.world 36 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

You came at the right time. When I left during the API nightmare and removal of third party apps, Lemmy was like walking into a desert wasteland and praying it loaded up and you weren’t just standing there in the void.

When it did load, where sand should be in the wasteland, it was beans. Slimy, canned beans as far as the eye could see.

You’ve entered during the golden age if you ask me. I don’t even think about Reddit anymore.

[–] exixx@lemmy.world 4 points 2 hours ago

Hahaha I had forgotten about the beans!

I'm a big fan of Sync app. It was formerly a Reddit app. It doesn't get much updates but it's fully functional for my needs.

[–] grissino@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

If you are on Android, try Summit or Connect, they are both even better than Sync.

[–] drzoidberg@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

And better dev support. I don't think the guy that's been running sync has done anything in like a year. Just copy/pasted the UX from reddit sync into lemmy sync.

I use Voyager for Lemmy on Android (it looks like Reddit-is-Fun), but unlike Reddit, Lemmy has no API restrictions, so you can use whatever you want, to get the design/layout that works for you best.

Enjoy your time here and take it easy!

[–] undystains@lemm.ee 2 points 5 hours ago

Yup, using Boost which used to be my go to app for Reddit on Android.

[–] Amanduh@lemm.ee 4 points 12 hours ago

Jerboa master race

[–] DragonOracleIX@lemmy.ml 5 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

For a phone app, I use boost. There are ads, but they are FAR less intrusive than most mainstream apps.

[–] Gloomy@mander.xyz 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago) (1 children)

And you can get rid of them for a reasonabley low one time payment. I can't even remember how much it was, I think in the ballpark of 10 €.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 1 points 4 hours ago

I think it was less, 5€. One time payment a while ago.

[–] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 8 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

Connect for lemmy is a RIF-esque ui that I enjoy.

[–] Killer_Tree@sh.itjust.works 3 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Seconded for Connect - I started using it after the API induced exodus and haven't looked back since. I have no idea how it compares to other apps, but I have no complaints!

[–] Crankley@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

All the same words but from me

According to Subreddit Drama:

[–] SkyeStarfall@lemmy.blahaj.zone 39 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

We really are at the point where doing what the allies (US) did in WW2 is unacceptable content huh?

Mockery of history

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 20 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

Well, the dumbass nazi just called a war veteran a "traitor" for agreeing that Ukrainian's shouldn't be exterminated by Russia. Really tells you what side he's on.

[–] Tja@programming.dev 7 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

A war veteran and a literal astronaut. What elon fantasizes about being.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Good point. What a fucking loser.

[–] suite403@lemmy.world 15 points 14 hours ago

Well, you see, it's bad unless the government tells us it's good.

[–] j0ester@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

I saw someone post that! I love those stickers.
