I came over when the blackout started and it already feels more like home than Reddit has in years. Reddit slowly got more and more toxic/up its own ass as time went onβ¦.. like do you remember the episode of South Park where Kyleβs family moves to San Francisco? It was the Prius episodeβ¦. All the folks in San Fran sat around all day getting high and sniffing their own farts. Thatβs how Reddit has felt recently.
This change has been a long time coming I think, fuckin spez just threw some gas on a fire to try and make a quick buck.

I was in denial about Apollo going dark and naturally when I woke up at 2am I had to spend 2 hours finding & getting lemmy & wefwef setup.

Hah, me right now when I should've been asleep long ago. I tried to open RIF as usual, realized it really happened, and then spent the last hour or two trying to understand this site and make an account and whatnot. I was only partially successful on the former, but at least I made it here!

This whole fediverse thing is a bit strange after 10 years of rif. But Reddit was going downhill for quite a while. Hope this takes off!
Second ever comment here. I watched Apollo shut down live, went to sleep and then immediately tried opening it up again after waking up, out of habit - girlfriends still asleep and I got so used to browsing Reddit for a bit before we get up on weekends, it has become muscle memory.
Using Wefwef currently and itβs nice, awesome work especially for a web app.
From the detritus of the old generation, the new generation shall emerge.

You're all the technology-savvy intelligent ones who figured out Lemmy right away, months ago. I was trying to get into Lemmy even before July 1st but finally figured it out today November 10th! I finally got into Lemmy today. It was nearly as difficult as applying & repeatedly being rejected for competitive employment somewhere. sheesh.
Giving this a shot after RIF died on me. Fuck Spez. I hope this takes off.
I straight up don't know how to use Lemmy. I feel like I need to relearn how to ride a bike.
I've been here for a bit more than a week now and my biggest advice and is to take it as it is. Take a deep breath, accept that this is Lemmy and not something else, and that you're feeling it out. This is not relearning a bike, this is getting in a peddle boat for the first time. Similar, yes, but also it's own thing.
Set feed to All. Scroll. See interesting topic you want to see more, subscribe to community. Interested in specific topic? Search for community in communities page. Once you gather enough subscriptions, set feed to subscribed. Scroll.
Was browsing Apollo, it ceased, I opened the Reddit app once, closed it, signed up for Lemmy.

I just moved Memmy into Apolloβs old place on the home screen. Iβm not touching the official reddit app.
Are this active users? (Commenting/posting) or just traffic?
I ask as I spent time in different servers looking for one I liked before making an account, so it took a while before I became an 'active user'
Lemmy only counts activity as commenting or posting. Unlike Reddit which counted any eyeball on a post as active. However, this is a traffic graph from the server, not from Lemmy itself.
I joined a few weeks ago but after RIF died just over an hour ago it looks like I've found my new home.
I'd love to see day by day numbers on a chart of how many joined
I'm just glad I found a server that allowed me to register. Been trying for weeks. Lemmy.ml is closed for registration. Lemmy.world just spins when you hit the register button. Another instance just said my registration was pending.
