Hate to brake it to you guys but that threshold was crossed in like 2012. This is work of every single president since 90s. Not just Trump

[–] threatcat@infosec.pub 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The context being that debt has hit 100% of GDP during major shocks to the system: WWII, GFC, COVID and what?

[–] BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (2 children)

It hit 100% in 2012 under Obama after post 2008 spending spree. It went up way more than under Trump COVID spending spree.

Edit: The only exception since 90s was Clinton administration

Spending spree, and all we got was:

Economic Recovery (Stimulus): The primary focus was the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (2009), which aimed to boost the economy through infrastructure investment, job creation, and tax cuts.

Healthcare Reform: The passage of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) (2010) was a signature priority, designed to increase health insurance coverage.

Energy and Environment: Significant investments were made in clean energy, renewable energy, and energy efficiency programs, including the "smart grid".

Education: Funding was prioritized for education reforms, including student aid reform and bolstering K-12 education.

Infrastructure and Manufacturing: Initiatives like the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) program focused on infrastructure, alongside tax incentives for domestic manufacturing.

Middle-Class Tax Relief: The administration enacted various tax breaks for small businesses, veterans, and workers to strengthen the middle class.

You’re naming the presidents when these happened, and we can tie that to the crises being addressed — Obama and GFC, Trump and COVID. What about now?

Also, let’s just say since 2012. Because the 90s don’t count in this; Clinton ran budget surpluses

But here's the kicker...would the 2012 stuff have happened if....Bush's deregulation policies didn't lead to the collapse of wall street

[–] BlackLaZoR@lemmy.world 3 points 2 months ago

What if collapse of wall street was punished instead of rewarded with bailouts? If I fuck up my business, do I deserve a bailout? Fuck no.

If only The FED would print more money and fix everything! Please save us, Fed, from the money

p.s. the fed are all bankers who work for private banking, before and after their fed "term".

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 months ago

As long as MAGA continues to run the USA, the failure(s) will grow exponentially.

[–] sahin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago (2 children)

The debt is intentionally created. It is all fake. When you tax the rich, you can easily pay all of the debt. Actually, if you want to pay the debt, you can do it right away, because all debt is in us dollars. You can print it. No problem. The problem is, we are believing all these stupid lies about economy. The debt is taken from a citizen already, most of it is taken from the rich, tax them and that is it, all the debt is paid!

[–] Auli@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 months ago

You can't print more money to pay off debt.
