Best case scenario is he attempts it, a few red states allow it then a couple state courts remove him from ballot and finally GOP scrambled to find a replacement at even less time than when Harris became the nominee. They would be decimated in the GE.

He will run as a VP for a puppet, right the election then said puppet will step down. Perfectly “legal” since he was never elected.

Given that the opposition to this very obvious conman's soft coup and systematic destruction of everything good in America consists of: Centrist Democrats still looking for compromise, left-wing media that is becoming increasingly Fox-ified, lots of justifiably angry people who fundamentally do not understand our antiquated system of government (and that it needs to change before what they want to happen can happen), about a dozen elected officials actually doing something, and no one who has bothered to write a counterplan to Project 2025, I'm not liking the odds. I fear that things will have to get much worse before political will and consciousness align enough to stop this downward spiral the USA has been riding since Reagan.

I just hope Canada can stay safe from this

Okay but to be fair, he won't be elected for his third term

[–] untorquer@quokk.au 4 points 3 days ago (1 children)

What are you talking about!? He's gonna take 93% of the vote.

[–] db_null@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Greatest result anyone has ever seen, they couldn't believe it at first but it's true they had to count it again and the dems were crying "stop the count, stop the count" remember that? But they kept counting and we got 96% it's the highest number ever and the people wanted it so badly because they love me you love me don't you so they told me it's actually 98% now and it's just getting better and better and people are crying because they're so happy about it some don't believe it but it's true we did it 99.4% they say the highest number of all times truly amazing

They looked at it and and, "Wow". They said it was impossible. They love me. And I love for you. They asked, "How did you do it", and we did.

Mark my words, the next one will be so much worse.

This is the result of years of virtually unlimited corporate money since 2010 (see Citizens United, Super PACs, etc.)

So, whomever wins will be the greediest of all of the candidates... and odds are good they will be much smarter than Trump.

Trump's not the cause. He's the result.

"But he's no mere 'person', he's God's anointed prophet!" -magats

[–] MrKoyun@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Erdogan did it fine. Trump saw that and went, "woah!!! i wanna do that!!!"

[–] fizzle@quokk.au 2 points 3 days ago

He's never been held accountable for breaking the rules his entire life, and this will be no different.

[–] skunk@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Well I'm sure the supreme court judges will stop it. They are completely unbiased after all. And when they do of course the executive will make sure that whatever the judges rule will be carried out. I sure love the separation of powers 🤗 /s

Wait, so now we're following the constitution?

[–] Fishy@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

But what if you change the office to a ballroom basement.

[–] Earthwormjim91@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Unfortunately that doesn’t really mean much.

Sure he can’t be elected to a third term. He could be elected VP and ascend back to the office though. There’s no bar on that. That’s why they’ve already publicly been floating that.

He could be elected speaker of the house and be second in line for the presidency.

The only argument you could really make is the clause that

no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once.

Means he’d be ineligible to act as president even, because he has already been elected more than once.

[–] ShutUpWesley@piefed.zip 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The law is only the law if it is enforced. The primary issue here is that the president is the person ostensibly charged with enforcement of the law.

IMHO, if we make it out of this with our Constitutional government intact(doubtful) we should pass an amendment that makes the DOJ its own seperate branch of government, entirely detached from the executive.

[–] tempest@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 days ago

Nah the vaunted checks and balances have failed.

The Dems are captured opposition. Congress won't do it's job and let the court get stacked.

The president is supposed to be only one part but seems the US decided they prefer a king and keep putting more power in that position.

I suspect he will not go for a 3rd term, but will be heavily involved if his people win. Might even not leave the White House.

[–] bloogoose@lemmy.zip -2 points 3 days ago (3 children)

OK so stop him. Stop anything he and his Nazis have done. No? Can't miss the new Doomsday movie? Taylor Swift's next tour is soon? Taco Bell is bringing back the Mexican pizza?
