College used to be sold as the ticket to a better job.

Now it feels like the ticket to... another application rejection.

Universities are suddenly trying really hard to convince everyone their degrees are still worth it, companies keep raising the requirements for entry-level jobs, internships are becoming impossible to land, and somehow people with PhDs are being offered $18 an hour.

So... what exactly are we paying for anymore?

In this video, we're looking at desperate MBA marketing, degree inflation, AI replacing entry-level work, ridiculous job requirements, and why standing out is becoming more valuable than collecting another checkbox on your resume.

The college I teach at saw a serious decline in computing enrollment last year, though it varied between majors. I haven't seen this year's numbers, but the school announced its first ever pay freeze. I don't think that's a good sign.

it cannot be a good sign if regression is consistent

Just looking at that screenshot on the post, it looks to me like companies are also taking advantage of older technology workers as well. Once you hit your 40s, your bargaining power dwindles dramatically.

They have said "Uuuhhh uni is not worth it anymore" since forever xdd, sure, for grifters and technobros.

I make 200k a year as a network engineer for a telecom and I dropped out of high school. Am I a technobro?

You're engineer as in having studied engineering?

in any case a lot of people are still sucessful in spite of not going to uni, but that doesn't mean is not important lol.

yeah doesn't matter if you're phil spencer himself you will still get kick out (most of phil's problem were completely his fault)

WTF is a PhD in information technology? Sounds fake.

We hire PhD engineers and that's more like $100-150/hr.

what the fuck is higher than a PhD?! PhD+Ultra?!

Sometimes I wonder why jobs are being offered at all.

Wouldn't it be more efficient for the Gentry Class and the Enforcer Class to remove/relocate the other Classes? They can then claim all of the newly freed assets for themselves, giving them all a huge profit.

It just doesn't make sense.

I told my kid to skip college unless he wants to go over seas.
