Even if his defense was that he only killed a CEO and not a person, I'd acquit him.

If the jury was all Lemmings then for sure. But people here aren't as representative of the general public as they think they are. Older Americans in particular are not down with Luigi.
It only takes one person intent on nullification to hang a jury. The prosecution can retry the case, but they have to decide if it’s worth it.

I really don't understand how and why he doesn't rather receive a huge award and a statue in his honor for having eliminated a rotten and abominable scourge and leech like that monster was and as in fact any CEO of any insurance company is, instead of prosecuting him as a criminal. Like, insurance industry is what should be illegal, he did only the correct thing.
If the next dem président has any balls (or ovaries) at all, they'd pardon him for the federal charges as their first official act.
I'm afraid, that's not how capitalism works.

It's still completely insane to me that this pretty little Italian man is being punished for a crime that CCTV footage showed was a tall angry Anglo-Saxon man in his late 40s.
The original CCTV footage showed a much older very white very dangerous man.
The only way Mangione could be dangerous is if I put pineapple on my pizza or I mispronounced "Rigatoni". That's just a joke, I'd never put pineapple on pizza.. Pineapple is only good when it's fresh.

Why would he plead guilty to something he didn't do?
Because if he doesn't take the deal then they will make sure to throw everything at him and ream his life and chances of survival.

Well, the charges he’s pleading to are stalking. Not the murder charges, and pleading in the federal case can get the state case for murder thrown out on double jeopardy under NY law if the federal case is settled first.
This isn’t that bad of a move for him.
